Lo Rotzim Shikun, Rotzim Ma'abarah: Worst case scenario?
http://hearyoni.blogspot.com/2014/07/worst-case-scenario.html
Lo Rotzim Shikun, Rotzim Ma'abarah. It`s time for another adventure. Wednesday, July 09, 2014. In Brazil, nothing unites society like the national soccer team. It doesn't matter where you are from, what social class you are, how old you are, which political party you support., The national team, or seleçâo, is the great unifying force. When the team plays, everyone proudly displays their jerseys. Life stops for the games. When I showed up in the office this morning, everyone was feeling a little glum (an...

Lo Rotzim Shikun, Rotzim Ma'abarah: July 2014
http://hearyoni.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Lo Rotzim Shikun, Rotzim Ma'abarah. It`s time for another adventure. Friday, July 25, 2014. I am now staying with one of my coworkes and their family. I moved in with them two days ago, and it has been a wonderful experience. They have been very welcoming, friendly, and hospitable. They have many dogs at their house because they love pets and to serve as a deterrent against robbery. I was taken aback at first. Then I thought that might explain the excessive barking. Hilter and I are now on pretty good te...

Lo Rotzim Shikun, Rotzim Ma'abarah: The Race
http://hearyoni.blogspot.com/2014/07/the-race.html
Lo Rotzim Shikun, Rotzim Ma'abarah. It`s time for another adventure. Monday, July 21, 2014. The above photo shows the start of the Canoe Race during the Shrimp Festival on Superagui Island this weekend. I spent the weekend in the fishing community in the middle of the local national park because my office works there. The festival was an opportunity to celebrate their labor, the canoe race being part of the three-day extravaganza. His body is covered in tattoos. Instead of a cross neckland, he has on...

Lo Rotzim Shikun, Rotzim Ma'abarah: January 2012
http://hearyoni.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Lo Rotzim Shikun, Rotzim Ma'abarah. It`s time for another adventure. Tuesday, January 31, 2012. I was on the road a couple of weeks ago and came across some fun murals. The World Map is one of the more common Peace Corps projects. It is an opportunity for Host Country Nationals to get a sense of where their country is in relation with the rest of the world. In this community, the Hulk has already taken over Australia and is threatening Madagascar and Africa. Monday, January 30, 2012. The naturally occurr...

Lo Rotzim Shikun, Rotzim Ma'abarah: August 2014
http://hearyoni.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Lo Rotzim Shikun, Rotzim Ma'abarah. It`s time for another adventure. Friday, August 01, 2014. I took the bus to work this morning, as I do most mornings. I paid the station agent at the local bus stop. This time, he wouldn´t let me through the turnstyle. I gave him more than the R$2.70 fare. He normally gives me change after I pass through the turnstyle. Maybe he was going to change things up and give me my change first. False bills are fairly common in South America. When paying with any moderately ...

Lo Rotzim Shikun, Rotzim Ma'abarah: The Sweet Spot
http://hearyoni.blogspot.com/2014/07/the-sweet-spot.html
Lo Rotzim Shikun, Rotzim Ma'abarah. It`s time for another adventure. Monday, July 14, 2014. As everyone in the Northern Hemisphere enjoys the balmy summer days and warm nights, the Southern Hemisphere faces winter. For Curitiba, don´t think White Christmas. Think something resembling the middle of autumn. Some days are pleasant and sunny, but most are cloudy, cool, and rainy. The absence of indoor heating here means that you need to find another way to keep warm. As I learned from my time in Ecuador, any...

Lo Rotzim Shikun, Rotzim Ma'abarah: What a ride
http://hearyoni.blogspot.com/2008/06/what-ride.html
Lo Rotzim Shikun, Rotzim Ma'abarah. It`s time for another adventure. Sunday, June 08, 2008. I´m on my own for the next two months. Ari has returned to Ann Arbor, and I continue southward. But before I get to my recent and upcoming, solo adventures, I would like to return to the chronological style I have adhered to until my shabbat shalom message. Well, I´ll think of it as they´re trying to keep us safe. Something you never want to see. Now, I know it´s the title of this section but let´s retur...The bus...

Lo Rotzim Shikun, Rotzim Ma'abarah: June 2012
http://hearyoni.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
Lo Rotzim Shikun, Rotzim Ma'abarah. It`s time for another adventure. Saturday, June 30, 2012. Traveling downriver from Manaus, there are a few options. Shaving on the boat—another option. Upon hearing that there is a possibility of making the trip even quicker and cheaper, we decided to take a boat to Santarem. We were told that the boat from Manaus to Santarem would cost about R$90 with the onward fare to Belem running us about R$50 if we talked to the captain and told him we were poor backpackers.
