Slow living, simply done. Arts Walk brings performers to Main Street. Channel 3’s Scot Haney helps make fashion show fundraiser a success. Hearing on ferry incites passionate response. Mattabassett negotiations on shaky ground. So long and thanks for all the fish. May 21, 2012. My dear friends, thank you for reading Simple Savvy; I’ve loved writing this blog for the past three and a half years. I’ve decided to stop blogging and simplify, simplify. If you go through the archives, you’ll notice that ...

Johno's Garden Blog: February 2008
http://johnosbloggo.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, February 19, 2008. Slowly but surely, one by one, the first round is starting to come to life. So far only a single cardoon and two or three Gerber daisies have poked their sleepy heads up out of the growing mix, but others are sure to follow. I lied. There were 74 other sprouts I didn't mention. Those were the Silver Queen sweet corn seeds that germinated out of 100, and that's not a bad rate for eight year old seed! It was hard to choose which ones. One practical dilemma is that the Gerber dai...

Johno's Garden Blog: Tomato Foliar Diseases
http://johnosbloggo.blogspot.com/2009/01/tomato-foliar-diseases.html
Sunday, January 25, 2009. I mentioned tomato foliar diseases in the last post. I mentioned them in a generic fashion, because there are so many, and because, franky, it's often hard to tell them apart. Here's a link to tomato disorders; click on "leaf" and you'll see what I mean. http:/ aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/tomatoproblemsolver/index.html. So there is hope for preventing fungal infections, but what about bacterial? I was pretty happy with the results. Yes the plants did get greener and lusher w...

Johno's Garden Blog: Thoughts on this Soil
http://johnosbloggo.blogspot.com/2011/02/thoughts-on-this-soil.html
Saturday, February 5, 2011. Thoughts on this Soil. My father used to raise New Zealand White rabbits for meat production. Bud’s Bunnies was a smallish rabbitry, but it produced truckloads of rabbit manure. Those were the good old days before Dad’s shoulder replacement. I haven’t had a source of free rabbit manure for a few years now, and, the quality of my garden soil has been increasingly disappointing. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Johno's Garden Blog: Decisions: Tomatoes for 2009
http://johnosbloggo.blogspot.com/2008/12/decisions-tomatoes-for-2009.html
Tuesday, December 30, 2008. Decisions: Tomatoes for 2009. Nonetheless, I have devised a new plan for deciding which ones will make the cut, based on lessons of the past. Foremost amongst the pertinent lessons is to choose based on what is likely to thrive, or at least survive, in this little nook in the Ozarks. There are numerous enemies of healthy and productive organic tomato plants here, but the big two are heat and foliar diseases. When I got this far, I realized that some of the things that were imp...
