What survivors of trauma do best. Monday, September 21, 2009. Belated Introduction to My Media Posts. The other day, I came across this post. In one of the blogs I follow. It is a request for songs, movies, YouTube clips, etc. that relate to sexual assault or sexual harassment. I read all the comments and contributed my own. What survivors of trauma do best. Wednesday, September 23, 2009. Only rapists can prevent rape. You've all heard it before: "10 Ways to Be More Careful and Not Attract Rapists" and all other similar incarnations. Don't walk alone at night. Don't wear earphones while jogging. Don't leave your drink unattended. Don't wear a short skirt. Don't grow your hair out long. Don't don't don't. The burden falls on us, the potential victims, to keep ourselves safe. Why? Only rapists can prevent rape:. If a woman is ...

Defying Gravity: Triggers and Responses
http://sayrinasquill.blogspot.com/2009/10/triggers-and-responses.html
What survivors of trauma do best. Friday, October 2, 2009. I saw someone on campus today who looks like the man who raped me my senior spring. FML. Let's talk about triggers. A trigger is something that reminds a trauma survivor of the ordeal(s) he or she has endured. Triggers can be external or internal, consciously recognized or unconsciously internalized. A place, person, object, time of the day/month/year, story, etc. that is somehow related to the ordeal. Any anniversary of March 25-26. Time does he...

http://frankiesstories.blogspot.com/2011/07/keep-fire-extinguisher-close-by.html
Writing is an expression of your soul. Friday, July 29, 2011. Keep a fire extinguisher close by. I'm in the editing process. Need I say more? I just read Kristen Lamb's blog about how to tear apart that baby you call your WIP when it needs it. Yeah. This is the most nail-biting part of the process. And I've already chewed the poor dears down to nubs. So, keep a fire extinguisher handy.just in case I spontaneously combust in the middle of the editing adventure. A blog for those willing to think about how to make the world a safer place without making potential victims stop living full healthy lives. Sunday, March 25, 2012. Victim-Blaming from the Male Survivor Perspective. Some people, in general, do it. Men Can't Be Raped:. This one is used by the densest of the dense without regard to gender. I've seen men AND women spout this nugget of wisdom on more than one occasion. Even if we take the most conservative estimates at face value. A man raped him? We exist a...

A blog for those willing to think about how to make the world a safer place without making potential victims stop living full healthy lives. Friday, September 21, 2007. I caught part of this final lecture by Randy Pausch who is a professor at Carnegie Melon on tonight's ABC Nightly news and while it is touching to see someone face death with such an obvious love for life, his lecture reminds me that brick walls are there for a reason. I recommend taking the time to watch the full lecture.
