Glistening white, wave-like, dunes of gypsum sand spread across 275 square miles of a mountain-ringed valley in southern New Mexico. It’s as close to the Sahara Desert as most of us will ever get… and, it’s a spectacular experience on horseback. This is White Sands National Monument (two hours south of ARA) and we visit there once a month for a full day trail ride.
