Accidentally Beautiful: STRUGGLING READERS AND STANDARDIZED TESTS
http://accidentallybeautiful.blogspot.com/2015/05/struggling-readers-and-standardized.html
STRUGGLING READERS AND STANDARDIZED TESTS. I have been administering and monitoring standardized tests at a rate of one per week over the past three weeks. That's just for one grade level. If you read my last post you can see how crazy things get during this time of year. I've made my feelings known on the subject of testing in general. Now let me tell you about how hard it is to watch your kids who are struggling readers, but don't qualify for Special Education, to take these tests. BEING A REAL WRITER.
Accidentally Beautiful: FURIOUS SEVEN
http://accidentallybeautiful.blogspot.com/2015/05/furious-seven.html
For Mother's Day we went to see Furious Seven. Even though Jakob had already went without me, even though we have seen EVERY SINGLE movie in the franchise in theaters together. But anyway, we finally saw the movie. From the first time Paul Walker appeared on the screen I felt the tears in my eyes. I know many people get upset over celebrity deaths, and I always feel a twinge of sympathy for anyone who has experienced a tragedy. But Paul was the first one that really bothered me. I would definitely recomm...
Accidentally Beautiful: NOT A TEACHER BLOG
http://accidentallybeautiful.blogspot.com/2015/05/not-teacher-blog.html
NOT A TEACHER BLOG. I have been blogging a lot more lately. It's been cathartic in some way, but I also worry sometimes that the things I say on my blog will have a negative impact on my life. I don't know why it would. I mean these things are just my opinion or little stories about what's happening in my life. Sometimes I just need to vent because writing it out helps me process it in my own brain. And that's who this blog is really for.for me. Why do you write? Do you classify your blog?
Accidentally Beautiful: A LITTLE RANT ABOUT TESTING
http://accidentallybeautiful.blogspot.com/2015/05/a-little-rant-about-testing.html
A LITTLE RANT ABOUT TESTING. I struggle lately with some of my posts. I worry about posting them because what will administrators think? And how will it affect my job as a teacher? I've also come to the conclusion that there needs to be more honesty in education. Less hinting at what teachers should do or what would make everyone more successful and more just outright saying it. Let's talk about testing. Do they know that this kid came into my classroom during lunch twice a week to practice reading with ...
Accidentally Beautiful: A DREAM IS A WISH...
http://accidentallybeautiful.blogspot.com/2015/05/a-dream-is-wish.html
A DREAM IS A WISH. I've been thinking a lot about careers and jobs and what people want to do in life. I really love being a teacher, but sometimes I still think maybe there is something else out there that is more right for me. But I don't think any of that actually pays very well. Actually if I could figlure out the magic formula to fitness without healthy eating or exercise I'd be a multimillionaire several times over. Except, unfortunately, that magic formula doesn't actually exist. NOT A TEACHER BLOG.

Crounching Tiger Hidden Dragon Motion Picture. March 24, 2011. Maria Popova of Brain Pickings (a fantastic blog, btw) has posted an excellent article about 7 micro-documentaries about occupations and crafts that are fast becoming obsolete. From being a shoe black to working the film projector to making glass signs, these are the stories of people who are the last of their kinds. This one below is the story of Taiwan’s last sword maker:. Check out the entire post here: Link. Once considered the work of Go...

Get to know your kid’s friends and their mum’s. Before Schoolies week. Get to know your kid’s friends, and their Mum’s. Before schoolies week! November 15, 2013. With a change of school from primary to high school, the routine gathering of parents in and around the school at drop off and pick up time comes to an abrupt end. Even with my shift work and more and more mums increasing working hours, as the children get older, this had already started to decrease, but you still knew who was who in the zoo.

Accidentally Blessed
Tuesday, November 2, 2010. It was in California that we got to know our much older half-sister, Alyssa, who moved in with us too. Some people think disabled folks are all innocent and saintly, and maybe that's true for some people, but not for me. Some of us are underwear flingers. I was too devious a little girl to suddenly become an angel just because I got whacked by a car. Need more evidence? It was in Santa Ana that the famous soap in the mouth episode happened. But eventually, lucky for him, and lu...

Accidentally Blissful
Saturday, 17 September 2011. It's been a while. This kid LOVES tomatoes. I tell her to smile and she does this. Some days are harder than others. But everyday there are two reasons I get out of bed. My babies and my new obsession with licorice peppermint tea. Yes, sounds revolting. don't knock it til you try it. Most amazing herbal tea, hands down. Mama needs to plant some real flowers for this poor girl! Poor little muffin stayed like this almost the entire time. We all do it. I'll tell you what she did...
