ACD is an excellent indicator of solar radiation transmittance. Shade varies with the seasons. Angular Canopy Density (ACD). ACD is directly related to the duration of shade and sun from 10 AM to 2 PM.

Average ACD can be estimated over a large area by applying appropriate sampling methods. Sampling ACD on streams. ACD is defined for a point in space but in practice, we are normally interested in making an estimate of average ACD over an area.
