June 2012 Team Trip
June 2012 Team Trip. Wednesday, July 4, 2012. Our team of 11 left SFO on June 13 and after our 2-day safari in the Masai Mara, spent a full 5 days at the Achungo Children's Centre (that's how we spell it in ex-British colonies! What was most remarkable on this trip for me was that every single teacher from our 2 preschool classes through Kindergarten up to 6th grade were simply superlative. I just wish I'd had them as teachers! We now have a total state-of-the-art, fully recycling latrine! Home Page for ...

Bonnie and Robin Smith (no, they are not sisters.just friends) actually completed applications and deposits by November - that's enthusiasm! Well not quite. On Monday, June 24, Sarah Ackerley joined the team, having been in Kenya for 3 months already. At last our team was complete! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Related Sites and Blogs. June 2013 Team Trip.

June 2014 Team Trip
June 2014 Team Trip. Wednesday, July 2, 2014. A Really Big Team. The June 2014 trip has turned out to be the largest of our team trips by far: 17 total by the time we got to the Achungo Children's Center in very rural Rodi-Kopany, Kenya. How do you delay a flight 12 hours? Were they still trying to buy the plane? We despaired of ever making Nairobi the next evening and what would that mean for the trip schedule? For poor Joey and Annemarie? IF we could make all the connections! I was amazed in Nairobi wh...

October 2012 Team Trip
October 2012 Team Trip. Saturday, December 22, 2012. The Day of the Tree. It looked like a total loss! Then each child had his hand painted green and they pressed their hands onto different parts of the tree on the wall to create leaves of their hand prints. We even brought in the preschoolers and all of the teachers. The tree filled out with the green prints of the hands of all of Achungo school and is now a permanent part of the school library. And there were many types of trees left for all to enjoy.

October 2013 Team Trip
October 2013 Team Trip. Thursday, November 14, 2013. The Intimacy of a Small Team. Oh, well, at least we all made it! After a good night's sleep, we headed out in 1 van (yes, that's right, only 1! For the first time no second van) for the Masai Mara with Carlos, our intrepid driver and safari guide. We had 2 days of safari (driving around checking out incredibly exotic animals) before our van trip to the tiny village of Rodi-Kopany where we would spend a full week with the children of Achungo.

October 2014 TeamTrip
Sunday, October 19, 2014. Preparing the Team for the Big Trip. Our team is modest in size and I'm not just talking about Jake and Luke our 9- and 7-year-olds (Jake is pictured here at the right with his younger brothers in front of him. They'll have to wait for the next trip! I'll post a full team picture as soon as I have one, but this shows the Smith family (Nate and Jen with their boys) at one of our prep meetings. Also going are 2 women: Vielka and Candy, and 3 guys: Paul, Gary and Monte.
