http://joangee.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Random musings from 'waffle central' aka me. Friday, 14 November 2014. There's something about this time of year. That always seems to increase the bad news. Down, down, down into the darkness of the grave. Gently they go, the beautiful, the tender, the kind;. Quietly they go, the intelligent, the witty, the brave. I know. But I do not approve. And I am not resigned. BY EDNA ST. VINCENT MILLAY. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). It's a turn off request. Theres something about this time of year. Living Life in PA.

musings n waffle: December 2014
http://joangee.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Random musings from 'waffle central' aka me. Wednesday, 31 December 2014. Already have several appointments booked for 2015, some for D and others for me. Hoping we both have far fewer visits to various local hospitals next year. D has been a regular at St. Helens, here's hoping after today he's discharged from outpatients. Don't get me wrong, the folk at the clinic have been very good, I just want all to be over and done with. Sunday, 28 December 2014. Recuperation slower than anticipated. Having been d...

musings n waffle: September 2014
http://joangee.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Random musings from 'waffle central' aka me. Tuesday, 30 September 2014. Usually, I do not go anywhere until midweek, leaving the local shopping centres to others. Today is the exception. Since D has severe osteoarthritis and uses a walking-stick even around the house, the ferrule has worn away. Yesterday, Steve phoned to say the order had come in. Hence today's visit to the shopping centre to collect the new stick. Now D has a repaired stick for everyday and his new one for 'best'. Rumour has it that th...

musings n waffle: Real geography...
http://joangee.blogspot.com/2015/08/real-geography.html
Random musings from 'waffle central' aka me. Saturday, 8 August 2015. When geography was taught up until the 1980s onward; it was often referred to a 'Capes and Bays'. People gleaned information from actual places and 'social geography' was but a gleam in some mathematician's eye. Nottingham was known for lace and for silk. Yorkshire specialized in working with wool of all kinds including the finest. Lancashire had 'King Cotton'. The Derbyshire Peak District used cotton and in particular, calico. Off in ...

http://joangee.blogspot.com/2015/08/a-tale-of-two-counties.html
Random musings from 'waffle central' aka me. Saturday, 1 August 2015. A tale of two counties. Today is apparently 'Yorkshire Day'! If you were to do a search - you would find that. The date chosen for Yorkshire Day is August 1st and that it is. A modern celebration - started in 1975'. So much for the 'history' of Yorks. Day! Let's cross over the border of the Pennine chain which is also called the 'backbone of England'. King Edward I of England to attend what later became. Known as The Model Parliament".

http://joangee.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Random musings from 'waffle central' aka me. Thursday, 27 August 2015. Roundabouts, slides and. There's a page entitled 'Growing up in the 50s / 60s which has images from those times. Here are some of the roundabouts, slide and 'horse' typical of playgrounds then. The small roundabout was a challenge to get on whilst it was spinning. Sometimes older youngsters would spin it faster and faster. Again us littlies needed to do our best to cling on. Monday, 24 August 2015. Apparently it is a cost-cutting exer...

http://joangee.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Random musings from 'waffle central' aka me. Monday, 22 June 2015. Thursday, 18 June 2015. Going along one of the genealogical byways, I came across the Abbott family, of Blackburn. This has opened up another area of investigation; this time concerning the town of Blackburn. Doing my usual forage around the internet; I came across an area called Mill Hill. The area is still there but has changed beyond recognition. As its' name suggests it was a factory area. 1881 England Census was a lodger in. Hence, I...

http://joangee.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Random musings from 'waffle central' aka me. Thursday, 28 May 2015. I have had a query niggling away at the back of my mind for most of this week. Online news is great for catching up with 'what's on' in the highways and byways of distant memory. Could I remember the names I needed, I could not! I remember Lord's shop, they sold Clark's shoes and you had your feet measured for width and fit in a wooden device. (Shoes always had to have growing room). The original shop was opened in 1910 by his father.

http://joangee.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Random musings from 'waffle central' aka me. Monday, 27 July 2015. It has got to be a sign of my age that I grow more annoyed and frustrated by acts of incompetence. I turned to the Internet, found the webpages and the complaints page. I duly filled in the complaints form and submitted it. Next, I received an email with the complaint ID number, only to learn that it could take ten working days for a reply. What caused all this annoyance and frustration? Do the hospitals take them? Eventually, the G.P...
