A Corner of Paradise

A Corner of Paradise. Last year didn't go well - I couldn't take time off work to build. I was responsible for a complex project which was a technical success, but the users refused to sign off on it. For months. I hope to get things underway again in spring. In any case, I'll be moving up to the Doomstead on retirement at the end of the year, even if I live in a caravan in the short term. David Irving (no relation). View from the south east corner. A Corner of Paradise: Progress (continued)

http://acornerofparadise.blogspot.com/2013/06/progress-continued.html

A Corner of Paradise. The builder has done some work - the site is leveled and there's a hole for the grey water settling tank, but not much else. I'm a bit concerned that there's no pit for the composting toilet bins yet. As you can see, the paddock is really green. I went for a bit of a wander, and took these photos of the micro forest. Looking south along the western fence. Looking into the northern edge. The taller trees are at least 4 metres tall. David Irving (no relation). 03 September, 2013 22:45.

A Corner of Paradise: January 2013

http://acornerofparadise.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

A Corner of Paradise. Has it been nearly a year? Well, yes it has. I still haven't managed to get the fox, unfortunately. I've only seen him once since I bought the shotgun, and I couldn't get it up quick enough to shoot the bastard before he ducked behind some trees. And he. Been eating the quail - there were hardly any of them escaping from under the slasher last time I mowed. The thing in the foreground is the handle of my Hamilton tree-planter, to give some scale: it's about a foot long. Blogger On T...

A Corner of Paradise: Progress!

http://acornerofparadise.blogspot.com/2013/06/progress.html

A Corner of Paradise. I've finally got around to engaging a builder to put in the slab. He started digging the trenches on Tuesday. I'm going up on the weekend to check on progress. There will be photographs and a proper post. David Irving (no relation). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Who would've thought a harmless vanity project like this would need one? It seems it does. Comments are to be on topic, or at least interesting, and not deliberately offensive. David Irving (no relation).

Read, Think, Write: Bad writing, bad reading

http://kerryn-goldsworthy.blogspot.com/2010/11/bad-writing-bad-reading.html

Read, Think, Write. A blog about reading and writing by a reader and writer. There will also be some thinking. Thursday, November 11, 2010. Bad writing, bad reading. After reading Tim Dunlop's carefully written, very nuanced, complex but clearly explained piece about books, the internet and changing times at the ABC's The Drum. This morning I was astonished, and not in a good way, to read some of the comments. Those who see themselves as Defenders of the Book (ahem: Tim was not attacking. But never mind ...

Read, Think, Write: After computers: the art of second-guessing

http://kerryn-goldsworthy.blogspot.com/2011/01/after-computers-art-of-second-guessing.html

Read, Think, Write. A blog about reading and writing by a reader and writer. There will also be some thinking. Tuesday, January 18, 2011. After computers: the art of second-guessing. The idea of book-as-baby is a common trope, and it applies not only to books but to any piece of writing that is going to be read by someone other than you. You labour to bring forth the object, and then send it out into the world. Why yes. It does. It's because I can.). The spell-checker promptly 'corrected' unwearable.

A Corner of My Kitchen. Recipes from the heart of the home. Tuesday, August 19, 2008. Gazpacho with Basil Croutons. I've never been a big tomato fan - especially raw tomatoes, like on a sandwich or in a salad. But for some reason, every summer I end up craving a chilly bowl of tomato-y gazpacho.my favorite recipe is this one. Topped with crunchy, delicious basil croutons. Are you making a tomato smoothie? And my kids despise it. But I make it once a summer because I love it! Monday, August 18, 2008.

A corner of my own. Thursday, October 16, 2008. Holocaust Survivors' Love Story. Okay, so I'm a sucker for a great love story. So when I got the assignment to comment yet again on another Holocaust story, I sought out something that had some assemblance of a "happy ending". I am a true believer of God's written word which states that all things are used for His glory and, in this, I think He has shone. Herman proposed to Roma that night. She declined, thinking him crazy, and eventually said yes two m...

A Corner of The Universe

A Corner of The Universe. Thursday, November 19, 2015. Autumn leaves and tragedy falls three inches thick. It covers the chalky images we drew when we were twelve. It walks across the cracked sidewalk. Screaming against the hollow wind collecting within us. Suffocation is the scariest way to go, it says. Because he stepped in front of a train. And she let knives draw on her skin like lipstick. But it was the suffocation that slowly took them. Because while autumn is equal parts irony and beauty. And the ...
