waking up in a new place | A Country Punk
https://acountrypunk.wordpress.com/2013/01/06/waking-up-in-a-new-place
Us and the soil. Waking up in a new place. This is a little morning waking-up groan. I’m turning round to this again, flexing, blinking eyes. While I wake up a bit more you should read this here piece by the PK. He is talking a lot of interesting sense with some other people, all about this crazy culture, conservation, mass extinction and techno-worship. Us and the soil. Another thread to pull from the last post is the global economic context in which the UK government is attempting to ‘dispose’ of its forest estate. There has been a lot of welcome debate. Around this, including some good analysis. Of some of the issues, and an encouraging amount of protest. However, there has been little, if any, discussion of the links between this sell-off and the increasing corporate investment in bioenergy and plantations. See their website for a laugh). It’s ...

Us and the soil. We are what we eat. Been caning the old goo-tube in a weekend-long orgy of regenerative agriculture videos. feel stuffed like a foie-gras goose. who wants to eat my liver? We Are What We Eat. Is just inspiringly depressing. An onslaught of bad news. Especially how they wimp out and leave responsibility at the feet of consumers, us as consuming beings. And the guy at the end who says “we’ve got to work out how to sustain civilizations.” Jeez. A Farm For A Future. Is more like it! You are ...

Us and the soil. Laquo; more biobastards. We are what we eat. This autumn I fell in love again. This time with a mushroom,. It is known as honey fungus, and most people villify it. It can infect and kill trees and shrubs, and spreads to new hosts by its thick black rhizomorphs, which look like bootlaces. It fruits are beautiful, and are tasty, but should be well cooked. Network spreading 3.4 square miles in Oregon, USA. It has fed on conifer plantations. And it is making soil. From your own site. Fill in...

Us and the soil. Laquo; waking up in a new place. I love how their stances could be from a photo of 1900. Put them in shirt collars and flat caps and hey presto. How can such pride in work and love of work be communicated in a single-frame snapshot of body-posture? It cuts close to something deep and universal, something to do with integrity and fulfilment. I love this photo almost to tears, and the people in it more so. Ivan Illich, Vernacular Values. Feed You can leave a response. From your own site.

Paul Kingsnorth . First Known When Lost. Books do strange and unexpected and sometimes disturbing things, independent of their creators. It’s one of the saving joys of being a writer. Exhibit one:. Has been my most successful book, in worldly terms. It has been garlanded with praise. It won a prize. And was listed for a couple of others, including the Man Booker, which is more of an industry than a prize but certainly gets you noticed. It’s found a great American publisher. With some more detail.) I...

Friday, 30 August 2013. María Inés de la Cruz The Woodlanders (with apologies to the late Mr Thomas Hardy),. Virgin Black Lace 2004. The Carteresque landscape - full of erotic menace. In fact, it’s all Angela Carter and absolutely no E L James. The Chase is the perfect backdrop for indulging these daydreams, walking the perfect ritual to conjure up images of fecundity and desire; it’s not dissimilar to saying the Rosary; the rhythm of my booted feet like the cadence of a Hail Mary. 8216;Watch your back!

Sunday, 23 June 2013. Can't see the love for the hate. Here's a confession that'd get me expelled from any gathering of psychogeographers and academics: I can't stand London. No, let me rephrase that. I hate London with a rage so intense it would shake the city to its foundations if I could tap its energy in seismic form. London doesn't just take itself far too seriously, it demands those who visit it do so too; insists they pay homage at its shrines. I've probably got it all wrong, spend too much time s...

Friday, 6 September 2013. Going down The Keats Road. The Golden Triangle (Butleigh to the left). In my previous post, Fecundity and Desire. 8211; a flirtation with the concept of a sadomasochistic landscape - I began ruminating about To Autumn. Before admonishing myself. DON’T GO DOWN THE KEATS ROAD! I wrote in my notebook. But why ever not? Well both, as it happens, but not until I’d entered The Golden Triangle. My first port of call was obviously To Autumn. Season of mists . What on earth am I saying?

Wednesday, 22 January 2014. And in the beginning was the walk, and the walk was made flesh. Biblical walking narratives: doncha just love ‘em! Adam and Eve taking their leave from the Garden of Eden, tales between legs and no longer, sadly, naked; Saul on the road to Damascus, struck down and temporarily blinded by a bolt of lightning; the Israelites and their flight from Egypt; Mary, Joseph and the Baby Jesus on the run from Herod. So many people on the run, not a good time to set out for a stroll.

Just another WordPress.com weblog. Laquo; Start as I mean to go on. March 14, 2010 by birdpooblog. I’ve got four different varieties on the go: green zebra, derby stripe, golden queen and a yellow plum variety. I’ve chosen varieties with low acidity levels and therefore the fruit will be sweeter and easier on digestion. I particularly love the green zebra tomato which has unusual green and yellow striped skin when ripe and has a beautiful sweet flavour. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.

ANZAC Day and the cross. Large crowds populated all the Anzac Day ceremonies I attended yesterday. The breakfast which followed the dawn service included rum mixed with International Roast. That combination is probably the best and only way to consume those two beverages. I heard a lot of stories about war. Good and bad. I heard the story of a ten year old in WWII whose hawkish arguments were only curtailed when his uncle described his own experience in WWI:. Isn’t that an awful story? Of course, the opp...
