Across the Brandywine

I'm now writing and sharing life over at my new website: Coeur de Verte. Please go visit me there! Links to this post. Happy birthday, Margot! How did we get to this milestone so quickly, seeming to fly by the seat of our pants most days? With a lot of grace, a lot of love, and a lot of support from people who love Margot and us. I thought about the special tea we'd send home with our guests, something blended in her honor. Happy first and golden birthday to our sweet, happy girl. Links to this post.

Labor was absolutely nothing like what I expected. I'd watched all kinds of documentaries, read books, talked to 100 moms, met with my doula friend, and mentally prepared myself as much as possible, and couldn't have planned for the reality of my own labor. Kyle looked terrified, and then told our families who were also terrified. They prepped me quickly and wheeled me away to the operating room where they gave me some incredible drugs. "Thank you, Jesus! I immediately felt relief and more alert than I h...

I started taking pictures as a clueless hobbyist in August of 2008, and I quickly fell in love with the craft. I began taking pictures every day of everything and everyone. I would leave the house just to find something, anything I could photograph. Every time I pick up my camera, I learn something new and my work is constantly changing. I love taking pictures for my family and friends. If you are interested, please contact me by emailing chelsea@acrossthebrandywine.com or calling (618) 507-0302.

Across the Brandywine: December 2013

http://acrossthebrandywine.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

Well, this blog has been neglected, as have many other aspects of life over the past two months. It has been a time of many ups and downs, many joys, and many, many challenges. I can hardly think about all of it without feeling like I might cry, or have a panic attack, or both. SO now I'm going to get a little vulnerable about life. I suppose of I had just one word to describe the last couple months, it would be exhausting. We have so much to be thankful for, a happy, healthy marriage, a happy, healthy b...

Happy birthday, Margot! How did we get to this milestone so quickly, seeming to fly by the seat of our pants most days? With a lot of grace, a lot of love, and a lot of support from people who love Margot and us. I thought about the tea cups, which I've been collecting for just such an occasion for the last four or so years. I thought about the cupcakes, a special splurge from our favorite bakery. I thought about the special tea we'd send home with our guests, something blended in her honor. I'm Chelsea&...

Margot's Room: Little English Lady Meets Little Hipster Baby. Anyhow, once I actually came to terms with the idea that we were really having a girl, and that we still needed to use that second bedroom for guests, I started to put together a room that would not only still function and feel comfortable for our guests, but could house a growing, beautiful girl and all of her stuff. (Side bar: how can such tiny people have so much STUFF? We used an old quilt made by Kyle's grandmother as the "comforter" for ...

Wednesday, February 10, 2010. It was a collection of short stories around concepts in no particular order. But one could still get the message of the book, it wouldn't be much of a book if you couldn't discern the message. So here is the message of Tribes. 1 Tribes have become the main avenues for influence and change in our culture. 2 A tribe is a group of people who share a common interest and have a way to communicate. 3 Tribes that are super successful become movements. In the Grip: Missional Community

http://nextgenjim.blogspot.com/2010/02/missional-community.html

Monday, February 8, 2010. On Sunday I had the privilege to preach at the worship gathering of the young church plant of which Judy and I are core team members. I spoke about Missional Community. The Biblical text was 1 Peter 2:9-10. If you are interested you can listen to the audio of the sermon here. But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. A royal ...

Friday, January 22, 2010. OK, I need to say upfront this may be my only post of 2010. Let's be honest I am not a good blogger. But, there is a lot going on in my life and in my head these days. I would have to say that I am learning a lot. We have had extra family around this winter and it has been great. I have found encouragement from extended family being with us. The insights, prayers, encouragements, companionship, and synergy has been uplifting for me. I love my family. Links to this post.

Of the Gospel, the making of disciples, and the planting of churches is great. Chicago is one of the most under churched. I just found the website who writes about. Monday, March 31, 2008. Is This Still My Blog? I haven't blogged in a long time. As you can see I have the ability to state the obvious. S0 here are some random thoughts. Arthritic knees really suck. It could be worse. Sleep doesn't come when you want it most. My wife is awesome. I really, really, really, like coffee. The book of Malachi is very challenging. I miss being on campus everyday. I just don't read enough. I am a big fan of Lost. Grace really is amazing. I use "really" a lot. Links to this post.

http://nextgenjim.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html

Monday, April 28, 2008. Last Sunday a question about good works came up and I promised to answer it on my blog. Here is the question to the best of my recollection. "What would you say to someone who says, 'I don't need Jesus, I am a good person, I do good things.'" We have a perfect example of how to respond to someone like that. Jesus gives us a perfect example. 18 And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. Links to this post. Tuesday, April 22, 2008. Last Sunday ...
