Why We Think This Is Important…. Trauma work is part of resistance. Even the police are informed about the consequences of violence in political protests and a lot of the times they work with peer group schemes to deal with it. Firemen debrief after every operation. And, in fact, we don’t. A lot of people drop out, disappear, stop being active, feel excluded because of their fear or because they are suffering from post traumatic stress disorders.

Activist all too often seem to put themselves last when it come to caring about people and planet. The macho attitude that “I'm fine” when they are clearly not or hassleing over-worked people to do more work when they are trying to take some time for themselves is counter productive. We need to take care of our selves and those around us if we are going to be able to keep on resisting and having a good time doing it. This is mental as well as physical health issue. Some people end up Self Harming.

Services that support, empower and protect thousands of families and single women will shut down. Thousands of workers in our sector will lose their jobs in 2011. We are acutely aware. That these cuts will compound. This interlinked violence and make it much harder for the most vulnerable people to become free.
