in search of human (by Roger Edwards)
February | 2012 | Actually.Alive.
https://actuallyalive.wordpress.com/2012/02
In search of human. February 10, 2012. I had an MRI the other day. Lower back pain – looks like a slipped disc – very painful, but not so serious – compared to other reasons for MRIs. The MRI changed me – like I glided into that tube one way and glided out another. Did the whirring magnetic resonance reverse my personality polarity? Did the imaging ray alter the picture of God stamped within me? Did that body-sized passage cause a Freudian-type awareness of my entry into life and also my exit?
She’s in Another Dimension | Actually.Alive.
https://actuallyalive.wordpress.com/2011/04/13/shes-in-another-dimension
In search of human. She’s in Another Dimension. April 13, 2011. She’s in another dimension. Marita, the hospice nurse, just came and checked on my mom. She showed me the creeping bruises on Mom’s arms, the shallow breathing, the cool hands and the lapses in breath. Yes, I repeated back to Marita, She’s in another dimension. I spoke, told her who I was. She blinked. ‘Are you in there, Mom? For that matter, when I walk into any room with anybody, I work for it. ‘There you are,’ her eyebrow says. Be...It wa...
De-Clutter the Moment | Actually.Alive.
https://actuallyalive.wordpress.com/2012/01/20/de-clutter-the-moment
In search of human. January 20, 2012. I have de-cluttered much in the last 3 months: my desk, my basement, my finances (not finished here). I even sat down one day and emptied out my wallet – with a self-challenge to make it 1/3 thinner. I’m happy to say that it now easily slips into my pocket and rests easier on my mind (I actually know what’s in it). It is the present moment. Yes, I have trouble de-cluttering my ‘now’. So I pause… from tapping out these words… I push aside these distraction...And I rea...

In search of human. April 11, 2011. I just spent 21 hours in a hospital room watching over my mom. That wasn’t long, I know people who for weeks on end, have sat by someone they love, sponging hands and faces, feeding with a spoon and watching respirations. They live in sweat pants, acclimate to the ebbing 12-hr shift cycles, learn the names of the staff and eat out of coolers. My 21 hours wasn’t even 2 cycles of the room. But it was long enough to see where I was. And maybe who I am. For company a phone...

Can of Worms: September 2011
http://christaelaineoakes.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Sunday, September 25, 2011. Things I did instead of studying:. Made cake pops for church brunch (thats right, cake on a stick, with sprinkles. I would pick the most time consuming baked good ever but they are kind of amazing). Bought fabric at Joann's weekend sale (40-50% off- how can you resist? Had brunch with my dear friends that comprise Team Awesome here at nursing school. Crepes, farmer's market breads and cheeses, fritata and my favorite coffee.mmmmm.talked about the commune. I keep a running list...

Can of Worms: May 2011
http://christaelaineoakes.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Monday, May 30, 2011. Today I ventured on another sweat-soaked adventure, as each outing into the steaming city leaves you glowing (wilting). But I returned successful! I lugged my three terra cotta pots and 16 quart bag of soil onto the bus, with miracle grow tucked in my pocket. My plants will not die! But in addition to soil, keys, and paint, Ace is home to bundt and pie pans. Lovely. Sunday, May 29, 2011. Moments of fear and hope are crowding so closely together its hard to distinguish one from the o...

Can of Worms: August 2011
http://christaelaineoakes.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 25, 2011. I definitely have a case of the back to school blues. Really? Aren't I done yet? I am cleaning, prepping notebooks, vacuuming, doing vacation laundry (sniff, vacation.I miss you) and trying to not have an anxiety attack. Gone is the ignorant optimism of pre-nursing school, here is the present reality of what I must do again. And then twice more. Its raining, a great excuse to stay indoors and sew. Sunday, August 14, 2011. Tuesday, August 09, 2011. Thursday, August 04, 2011.

Can of Worms: January 2012
http://christaelaineoakes.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Friday, January 20, 2012. Peek of the Week: The things we do. A meal, with a real rendering of a gluten free breakfast. I know, my glowing health makes you want to vomit. Here to spread sunshine. And my new whats-it contraption electric holder thingy. To hold my now numerous wires and things. The things I usually lose. Now they are snug sand-whiched between birdies and pom-poms. This is my FIRST EVER linking up/blog share thingy-ma-bob with Jessa of the Happily Home Sewn. Tuesday, January 17, 2012. Quote...

Can of Worms: Camera, activated.
http://christaelaineoakes.blogspot.com/2012/01/camera-activated.html
Sunday, January 01, 2012. Liz's sweet puppy, Huckleberry. He's a grouchy old man. Crafts: painted picture frames, kindle case. For the new years party I made a deliciously indulgent recipe, bitterballen. It's essentially a fried meatball and it is so good. The recipe I used can be found here. The only change I made is that I added gruyere cheese, which is never a bad thing. I also made hush puppies, cause if you are frying things, I mean, you need to fry hush puppies. Can of Worms: October 2011
http://christaelaineoakes.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Wednesday, October 19, 2011. I made a mistake this morning. I had a latte. And then went to my exam. About question 5 my stomach began to protest, in loud, rolling tones. Loud. My friend seated to my left glanced my way, eyebrow raised. Yes, my body hates milk. I forgot. Oops. The unholy sounds emanating. From my abdomen punctuated the entire exam period. Awkward. But I think I did okay on the test. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). We are all worms. But I believe that I am a glow-worm. Winston Churchill.

Can of Worms: July 2012
http://christaelaineoakes.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 31, 2012. I may need one. I am baking.a lot. Blame it on the new kitchen aid, but reality is I am avoiding NCLEX? Anticipation of real life job insanity? Whatever. My kitchen is a sweltering paradise. I am making liberation food, indulgent "life-is-good" food. My kitchen is too hot, I am sweating like a beast and I am whipping up a little 4-5 hour dish called beef bourguignon. Honestly. I would turn myself in except I am having so much fun. Tuesday, July 10, 2012. Pause in the silence].

Friday, November 25, 2011. Bone Collector. Terrifying taxi driver/serial killer in it. Back in Baltimore after a week with family. I am looking around my apartment and I feel clear and different.then I realized its because I am rested and not on the verge of a panic attack. Great, now I am ready for the hellish two weeks ahead. Hold Your Head High Gorgeous. They Will Kill To See You Fall. April 12, 2015. Regarding making change versus maintaining change I don’t seem to have a problem making a change for whatever reason but something is stopping me from maintaining a change. If I wasn’t hurt by the letter then why did it make me cry she was only pointing out things that she had noticed things that I hadn’t. What do I need in order to feel worthy, to feel like I matter, to Know that I count? I am a massage therapist for myself.

The view from down here…. Some Kind Of Time Travel. April 14, 2016. April 14, 2016. Posted in Life With Alison. Sleep is so much more than rest; it’s a time travel at the mercy of your pillow. It’s a voyage from one moment to the next. While part of the world works and cooks and laughs, we travel between minutes and hours and seconds. And now, all I can do is dream of the future. When he got hungry we cooked corn dogs in the oven and drank all the caffeine we could. Sometimes we laughed. But eventually w...
