PHILIP MACDOUGALL BOOKS
http://philipmacdougallbooks.co.uk/medway.html
In 1979 I moved into the Medway Towns. It was not such a great wrench as, having lived on the Hoo Peninsula, I was already familiar with Chatham, Rochester and Gillingham. Furthermore, I had already taken an interest in the naval dockyard at Chatham, this resulting in my second book, The Chatham Dockyard Story. 1982) Not unnaturally, I also took an interest in the life and activities of dockyard workers when outside their place of employment. This, indeed, was the theme of a further book, Chatham Past.

My newest published book is Settlers, Visitors and Asylum Seekers. Which was published by Portsmouth City Council in November 2007. In brief, it provides a general history of the various ethnic minority communities that make up modern day Portsmouth. Many, of course, had dockyard or naval connections. I have just completed Chatham Dockyard 1815-65: The Industrial Transformation. 2008 Dr. Philip MacDougall | legal. 124; web design by www.ad-production.co.uk.

PHILIP MACDOUGALL BOOKS
http://philipmacdougallbooks.co.uk/index.html
My first interest is local history and I have written about both North Kent and Chichester, the two places where I have spent much of my life. In a lighter vein I have also written several books that attempt to unravel a number of unsolved mysteries. Finally, and over a long period of time, I have developed a specialist interest in naval dockyards. Please email for further details about the talks I give or of books I have available for purchase and which currently include:. The Story of the Hoo Peninsula.

My first published book was The Story of the Hoo Peninsula. 1979) Not surprisingly, it is still my favourite book. At the time of writing I was a parish councillor on the Isle of Grain and I wanted to do something that would help create a greater sense of community. Also about the Hoo Peninsula:. Malaria: its influence on a North Kent Community in Archaeologia Cantiana 95. 1979), 255-64 (available from the author as an off-print). The Isle of Grain Defences. 2008 Dr. Philip MacDougall | legal.
