http://clarkesworldmagazine.com/arkenberg_01_10
Science Fiction and Fantasy. HUGO AWARD-WINNING SCIENCE FICTION and FANTASY MAGAZINE. All the King's Monsters. Megan Arkenberg —. The monster in the cell across from me is Hunger. He is a young boy, brown and slight, with long crooked snatching fingers and thin greasy hair. All day, he plucks bits of straw from his mattress and digs them into the dirt floor or the flaking mortar between wall-stones. Sometimes he chews on them. At night, he screams. Two words were written on the back. Pride. To describe t...

Best Books I Read in 2010. Dec 20th, 2010 at 1:01 PM. Goal Achieved: 50 Books Read in 2010! When I was a teenager with hardly any responsibilities, I probably read a couple hundred books each year, but these days- with the three children, writing, slush-reading, and all- it's a major achievement to read fifty-one books in a year, so I'm proud. I may even squeeze in a fifty-second by the end. Or I may rest my eyes a bit. The Shadow Year - Jeffrey Ford. The Time Traveler's Wife - Audrey Niffenegger. I love...

A scientist, mostly. A writer and data visualizer, partially. My favorite movie is Jurassic Park, because it is 95% of the reason I got into science. My favorite book is Brothers Karamozov; or Hopscotch; or the Thin Man; or anything with dragons, wizards, or spaceships on the cover. What do I do? I research how brains make decisions. I find how social context affects the brain to be particularly interesting. Currently, I use fruit fly courtship as a way to investigate these questions.
