A Letter from Home: Saturday 1st August - Another tidy-up job in progress
http://a-letter-from-home.blogspot.com/2015/08/saturday-1st-august-another-tidy-up-job.html
A Letter from Home. Saturday, 1 August 2015. Saturday 1st August - Another tidy-up job in progress. We were "early-adopters" of home computing, and once the children were born (a long time ago now) the computer lived in a corner of the sitting room. The actual corner has varied from time to time, but at the moment, and for the last I dunnamany years it has stayed in the same place. I say "it" - the techy stuff has been rebuilt, upgraded, reconfigured and whatevered every couple of years. They really look...

A Letter from Home: Monday 3rd August - The comfortable cat
http://a-letter-from-home.blogspot.com/2015/08/monday-3rd-august-comfortable-cat.html
A Letter from Home. Monday, 3 August 2015. Monday 3rd August - The comfortable cat. This cat and I have been at war for several months now. It really doesn't matter what arrangements I make for my own comfort - she assumes I've done it for her. MY footstool (because the cat wanted the other half ov my settee all the time so I couldn't curl up properly). My latest patchwork quilt, made using on old fleece cot blanket, for keeping ME warm in the evening. Putting it on the bottom shelf of the new trolley ha...

A Letter from Home: Sunday 2nd August - Finished reading "The Gabriel Hounds"
http://a-letter-from-home.blogspot.com/2015/08/sunday-2nd-august-finished-reading.html
A Letter from Home. Sunday, 2 August 2015. Sunday 2nd August - Finished reading "The Gabriel Hounds". I won't give the plot away just in case you (like me) had forgotten it. It is set in the Beirut and Syria of 1967, before everything changed. I was jolted out of the plot twice in the first few pages;. You'd never use a phrase like "Oh, it all went like a bomb." to describe a successful trip through North Africa to Damascus these days. Too much has happened in too many places. No thanks, not at present.

A Letter from Home: The Knitting Project
http://a-letter-from-home.blogspot.com/p/the-knitting-project.html
A Letter from Home. A block a day from "200 knitted blocks for blankets, throws and afghans" by Jan Eaton. Project start date; Thursday 5th April 2012. I've put the project start date in full; last time I tried to do a long term project - "Read the Bible in One Year" it took me more like two years. By my calculation, the one hundred days will be up on 13th July. Or thereabouts. I'll post them up individually in the main blog as I go, and just add them to this page in groups. Looking back at the last phot...

A Letter from Home: July 2015
http://a-letter-from-home.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
A Letter from Home. Friday, 31 July 2015. Friday 31st July - Reading List. I barely read a single book during term times this academic year just passed. In the evenings I've tended to browse the blogs that are on my www.feedly.com, and scroll through twitter, and flip through flipboard, with one eye and one ear vaguely directed to "easy-watching-TV). I really didn't have many brain cells left to deal with any kind of "input" that needed proper thinking about. I've been loading up my kindle in readiness;.

A Letter from Home: August 2015
http://a-letter-from-home.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
A Letter from Home. Monday, 24 August 2015. Monday 24th August 2015 - It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it. A beastly raining raining and raining day. He went and did the shopping and got soaked, I stayed in and tidied the table like mad. OK, so this is an old picture from last year, but it's the same. Sort of thing that was facing me this morning. Thinking that a music theory pupil was due this morning (wrong, she's due on Friday.) I'm at that stage of the school holiday when. We will research f...

A Letter from Home: April 2015
http://a-letter-from-home.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
A Letter from Home. Sunday, 26 April 2015. Sunday 26th April 2015 - Sour Dough, episode 1. Over the Easter holidays I wanted to try making sour-dough bread - that was going to be the holiday project. It was not to be. So, a couple of weeks later, I'm going to have a go. Here's the "starter"; a mixture of four, water and fast-action yeast. Now it has to be left, covered with cling film, at room temperature for about 24 hours. To be continued.). Sunday 26th April 2-15 - and another week rushes by. Oh, and ...

A Letter from Home: March 2015
http://a-letter-from-home.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
A Letter from Home. Monday, 30 March 2015. Monday 30th March - Running away for a day. On our way home from somewhere or other this the morning we were pondering what to do next. Weekly shopping. Tidying after double glazing. Housework. Crash out at home. We made our decision and just went, without telling anyone in advance, without making any arrangements. It was a magical day. Not telling where we went. Don't want to break the spell. I've told you what we ate. That should be enough. That's so untrue...
