Adam J. Copeland. Theology and culture, both practical and impractical. You are here: Home. My Classroom is Not a Safe Space. My Classroom is Not a Safe Space. Adam J. Copeland. Usually, it’s a man who says it. He wants conversation to go deeper. He’s hoping for more self-disclosure. With the best of intentions, he wants to move past the mundane. He desires this time to be different. So he says, Go ahead. Share. This is a safe space. Except, no it isn’t. I came across this phrase in preparation for my.

Adam J. Copeland. Theology and culture, both practical and impractical. You are here: Home. 1,000 Fewer Hours. Adam J. Copeland. One line I read a few weeks ago about congregational life together has stuck with me in a big way. I’ve brought it up, in one way or another, several times already. In a Christian Century article, More People, Looser Ties David Eagle drops the sentence: Think of it this way: a congregation with 100 […]. A post of mine went life at the Wheat Ridge Ministries blog last week. I’ve posted it below. SouthMinister's Musings: April 2009
http://southministersmusings.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Sermons and other ideas from the pastor of Southminster Presbyterian Church in Boise, Idaho. Sunday, April 26, 2009. Books and their Covers. A Sermon preached at Southminster Presbyterian Church. April 27, 2009. We do it all the time. When we’re judging THINGS because of their packaging, that is one thing. We’re usually the ones to suffer for bad judgment—occasionally a great book cover doesn’t mean a great story on the pages. Whether or not you’ve seen it already, I invite you to pay particular at...

SouthMinister's Musings: December 2009

Sermons and other ideas from the pastor of Southminster Presbyterian Church in Boise, Idaho. Thursday, December 24, 2009. Count and Be Counted. A Christmas Eve Meditation from. I may have told you this before, but I am a fan of irreverent Christmas Cards. Like this one, with Jesus singing “Happy Birthday to Me”. But they didn’t have a room. And then the angels announce the birth of the Savior. But they don’t post it on Twitter or CNN.com. Katie Couric doesn’t get the scoop on the ...But these shepherds a...

SouthMinister's Musings: Christ the King
http://southministersmusings.blogspot.com/2009/11/christ-king.html
Sermons and other ideas from the pastor of Southminster Presbyterian Church in Boise, Idaho. Monday, November 23, 2009. A Sermon preached at Southminster. November 22, 2009. Psalm 18:1-6, 16-19, 46-50. But this language can be uncomfortable for those of us who don’t give power to earthly kings. What does it mean for us to declare Christ as King? And to more than declare it—what does it mean for us to live as if that is true? If ideology was behind his horrible actions, then I would argue he should have j...

Larry Wohlrabe: December 2014

Friday, December 26, 2014. 2015 Bishop’s Bible Studies. Starry Night (Genesis 15:1-21). Please read this passage before exploring this Bible study. Getting In A Word Edgewise. We human beings spend about a third of our lives asleep. It’s startling simply to say that out loud. Our tendency is to think of “our lives” as our active engagement in the world around us; we tend to discount our “down time.”. Fully conscious, awake, seemingly in control of things. God Starts Over With Abram. The first eleven chap...

Saturday, April 11, 2015. God is the Cook! Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls, MN. April 12, 2015. Second Sunday of Easter. If faith was something you could cook up in a kitchen, how would you do it? What equipment would you use—a microwave oven? I know that sounds silly, but play with me for just a few moments. Is faith an instant. Micro-wave thing or a slow-cooking. Set the microwave on 10 seconds cook-time and out pops the grandest confession of faith in the whole Gospel of John! In fact, we saw ...

What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not withhold his own Son, but gave him up for all of us, will he not with him also give us everything else? Who will bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? In the name of Jesus. Amen. To say that she ...

Saturday, May 30, 2015. Sion Lutheran Church, Lancaster, MN. May 31, 2015. Sunday of the Holy Trinity. This may come as a surprise to you, but many pastors fear this day, Trinity Sunday. They get so nervous that they avoid preaching today because the doctrine of the Trinity spooks them. So some pastors even schedule their vacation to be gone on this Sunday (though I’m sure that’s not why Pr. Melodi headed home to Ohio! Anything to sidestep preaching a sermon on the Holy Trinity! Of God’s royal robe!
