I wanted to quickly share this article that I stumbled upon yesterday. A researcher recently made an interesting discovery while using an array of hydrophones in European water systems. He found that the small aquatic insect, Micronecta scholzti, can make a very loud soud by rubbing its ribbed penis along its abdomen. The microscopic water fly can produce sound up to 105 dbspl! Since my first recordings with the violin that I recently inherited, I have become obsessed with the idea of bowing as a means of generating sound. Yesterday I opened up the MaxPatch I described last post, to find some feedback somehow left behind in the signal. I jumped on the “Quick Record” and tweaked with the controls.
