Fellow Eng 100 Bloggers. Monday, April 26, 2004. Peer review, Steep and Brew style. Please remember that I will be at the Steep and Brew on State Street during classtime on Wednesday morning. And, of course, I'll be on hand if you have any questions. Posted by Mike @ 2:19 PM. Picket lines, updated. Hinted otherwise, so I asked my steward. If the TAA votes to continue its job action this week, what does it intend the picket lines to accomplish? The picket lines are in place to demonstrate solidarity and t...

Fellow Eng 100 Bloggers. Monday, February 28, 2005. You've completed half your work for the oral debate project already, but don't rest on those cushy laurels: the other half of your debate grade (about 2.5% of your final course grade) will be decided on Wednesday during the question and answer session. To get an A. These questions shouldn't be wimpy or superficial: presume that material issues (financing, protection from the weather, etc.) can be easily corrected. Instead, examine each group's m...One w...

Fellow Eng 100 Bloggers. Tuesday, March 29, 2005. The assignment, for those of you who have (ahem). Misplaced your class syllabus (slightly updated):. First start by looking for. Something else written by Amy Kiste Nyberg. Or something else written by Noel Carroll. Or something else written by Scott McCloud. Or (for a challenge) something written about. Or any one of the citations in Nyberg or McCloud’s or Carroll's essays. Think of the written part of this assignment as describing a journey, including w...

Fellow Eng 100 Bloggers. Wednesday, March 31, 2004. By Kaylan's own admission, she is an HTML goddess. Is this related to the fact that Kelly is a sun goddess. Is my class a minor pantheon? Posted by Mike @ 8:59 PM. Thursday, March 25, 2004. For those of you who are still a little unsure about what the journal question for tomorrow is talking about, Jeremy's journal from Wednesday. And Jen's for Friday. Are both top-notch demonstrations of how we might respond to scholarly articles. Finally, my dorkiest ...

Fellow Eng 100 Bloggers. Wednesday, September 29, 2004. It is possible for Wisconsin residents to register at the polling booths on November 2, but you will probably find it a little bit easier to register beforehand: registration forms for Wisconsin residents are due by 10/23, about three weeks from now, but why not take care of it today? Kottke.org offers clear and simple instructions. For finding voter registration forms. And also procuring absentee ballots. Posted by Mike @ 8:47 PM. You are invited t...

Chris Ware has been collaborating with "This American Life" producer Ira Glass to tell the story of the death of one of Chicago's most beautiful urban monument in Lost Buildings. She raises several excellent introductory claims in the popular argument about the legal drinking age. Here is an awesome opportunity for you - in two weeks, since this Friday's topic is locked - to get into an in-depth argumentative and analytical discussion. How can you argue against her position? Try to engage with what she says in depth. If you think I'm.

Fellow Eng 100 Bloggers. Sunday, December 12, 2004. No bibliography = no essay. Discussion we had, the second day of class, about citation and plagiarism? It seems that I forgot to make one important point: you always. Need to include a bibliography with your essay: always. Yes, some TAs and professors will be more casual about bibliographies - especially when you are only using texts from class - but this is lazy and potentially dangerous. Now, how you format your bibliography - even what you call it.
