The Nagzira Six: Of licks and stares
http://thenagzirasix.blogspot.com/2007/02/of-licks-and-stares.html
Monday, February 5, 2007. Of licks and stares. Bapubhai was scouring Rajaji National Park on a small elephant named Rail Bahadur - as a baby she had got trapped between rails and four maternal aunts had stood in front of a speeding train, to protect her, perishing in the process. As they spotted the leopard in the undergrowth she snarled and then stalked them before making her way up a tree. Ladies and gentlemen, Nature's Madonna. Monday, February 5, 2007. Where fear is not an option. Night-trek to Gorakhgadh, 11th March 2006. The trek, in some ways, began much earlier—the long workday followed by the terrible traffic on the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli link road. We reached Dehri, the base village, at 9.15 pm A quick snack later, we strapped on our sacks, slipped on Action Trekkers, and started the climb. It was 9.45 pm. The cave already housed another group, from Kalyan. They had arrived in the afternoon. We dined on parathas and...We st...

The Nagzira Six: June 2007
http://thenagzirasix.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, June 27, 2007. There were six of us when we had descended from Prabalgad the previous day. It came as a bit of a surprise when Gaurav and Dhiraj decided to pull out due to prior commitments. That left only four of us, but we decided to climb Siddhagad anyway. One trek should not be compared with another. Each fort and each trekking experience is unique and stands alone. But, thanks to our serial Prabalgad and Siddhagad treks, the unfair comparison did happen and Siddhagad won hands down. As we...

The Nagzira Six: Project Lion
http://thenagzirasix.blogspot.com/2007/04/project-lion.html
Monday, April 9, 2007. All is not well in lionland. The Gujarat government has announced a breakthrough in the recent poaching incident at Gir. Five lions are still unaccounted for ( http:/ www.indianexpress.com/story/27415.html. But, as is the case with almost all environmental issues festering in India, without conscientious enforcement, these are toothless measures. Give us some answers. Let us not have another Sariska, especially in the case of the only viable population of the wild Asiatic Lion.
