The History we want to share is really Her Story. Indians have been settling in New Zealand since the late 18th century when a few Indian seamen jumped ship from British East India Company ships that stopped in New Zealand. These men married Maori women and settled in Maori communities. In the late 1800's increasing numbers of Indians migrated to New Zealand. They came mostly from the Navsari. Regions of Gujarat province and also from Jalandhar. By 1916 there were 167 male Indians but only 14 females.
