Fantasy POD: Don't Yawn
http://fantasypod.blogspot.com/2006/12/dont-yawn.html
Thursday, December 14, 2006. Nothing exciting, interesting or mysterious after that? Fast forward until you get there. If you got to the end of your novel, you've got some work to do. This advice ought to go into a book for new authors, along with "Don't start your story with the weather" and "No, it was not all a dream. It really wasn't." Amazing how new writers all seem to get the same seven or eight bad ideas spontaneously. December 23, 2006 at 8:54:00 PM PST. January 3, 2007 at 4:13:00 PM PST.

Fantasy POD: First Sentence
http://fantasypod.blogspot.com/2006/12/first-sentence.html
Wednesday, December 20, 2006. Does the first sentence of your novel, short story, novella, matter? You bet it does! You can't judge a book by it's cover," but that is the first thing people see of your book. Make it a good cover and they might be intrigued enough to open the book. What is the first thing they see of your writing? Sentence number one. Is it a good one? Does it pull the reader in? To read the first sentence of many famous books. Do you remember them? Do they make you want to read more?

Fantasy POD: First Submission
http://fantasypod.blogspot.com/2006/12/first-submission.html
Monday, December 4, 2006. I got my first submission today for review. That's good! I've also hooked up Google Analytics to the blog so I can see if people are actually visiting or if I am merely talking (writing) out loud to no one in particular. I can see now that in one sense, most blogs are only talking into the ether, but if they gather enough people who are interested then they can become a niche blog. One person conversing with a small group of others. December 5, 2006 at 7:39:00 AM PST. Working To...

Fantasy POD: True Print-On-Demand
http://fantasypod.blogspot.com/2006/12/true-print-on-demand.html
Sunday, December 24, 2006. The current state of POD is a site like Lulu.com or Xlibris.com. You go to the site, find the book you like, have them print it and mail it to you. If you are willing to pay top dollar for the shipping, you can possibly have your book the next day. 24 hour turn around for a small extra fee. How about 7 minutes? The "low cost" machine described here. Don't forget to check out the videos at the second site. If these machines can produce books that rival traditionally published bo...

Fantasy POD: January 2007
http://fantasypod.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 1, 2007. New Year - New Tactic and Movie Review. I've got a couple of things on my mind. I haven't received any manuscripts beyond the initial four and perhaps that is because people are reluctant to send a whole manuscript to an anonymous reviewer. Therefore, I will try switching tactics (or is that strategies? Second, my kid and I went to see the new Eragon. Movie since we both enjoyed Eragon. Over acted and the actress played Arya. Supposed to be short? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Fantasy POD: Amazon and POD
http://fantasypod.blogspot.com/2006/12/amazon-and-pod.html
Wednesday, December 6, 2006. Amazon has contracted with HP to use their Indigo presses. It will be interesting to see how they use their size along with their ubiquitous site to promote POD. If the "average" book is 300 pages we have about 125 million POD books published. In 2003 2,492 million books. Were published. It looks like POD will start to become a significant part of the publishing business. No wonder Amazon is aggressively. Moving into the business. What does this have to do with Fantasy? Yes, ...

Fantasy POD: Now What?
http://fantasypod.blogspot.com/2006/12/now-what.html
Sunday, December 10, 2006. Since, for now, I was planning on only writing up good reviews for submitted items, I'm going to have to pass on it. I will write up poor reviews for something I've purchased or been given as a gift but something requested by the author, I'll let those lie in the "reviewers slush pile.".
