Asymp; 2 Comments. Adoption; foster care; hurt children;. Adoption; foster child; transition; neglect. It has been over two months since Ls departure. At first, we needed time to breathe. To not think about it. In fact, ask anyone close to me and they will confirm that I still don’t talk about it. I can’t – not without far too much grief surfacing. Perhaps that is best – I suspect not. Perhaps she is doing remarkably well – if so, she is simply experiencing yet another honeymoon phase. Larr; Previous post.

Asymp; Leave a comment. Adoption; hurt children; transition; foster child. Once she had tested the machine and had a bit of confidence (that confidence-building exercise took less than five minutes) she walked to the fabric store in town to get some material to make pillows (she had bought the stuffing some months ago). And today she did it! She will take the pillows with her, and I know they will help her remember her time here fondly – with pride of how far she has come. Hopefully as she snug...You are...

Fiddling on the Roof. Asymp; Leave a comment. Adoption; hurt children; transition; foster child. In the movie, everyone knows their part in making the town of Anatevka a harmonious place, until of course the concept of a better life is considered and added to their dreams. They wanted more – they wanted more than their usual life of finding a way to make a life against all the odds. I don’t want to fiddle on a roof anymore. Larr; Previous post. Next post →. And on the 7th Day…. Asymp; 2 Comments. Adoption; foster child; transition; neglect. 8230; I finished. I finished the packing and sorting and moving of furniture and things from L’s bedroom. The paint has been purchased and her room is now ready to become my office. This was the last step. I shipped her final things yesterday, and those that cannot be sent to her are ready for a neighbor to take for her daughter. I am done with this chapter in my life. Larr; Previous post. Next post →. And Now She Knows. Asymp; 4 Comments. Adoption; hurt children; transition; foster child. The process is simple. The heart is not so. I am feeling a mix of relief, loss, frustration, disappointment, sadness, hope and closure. Lots to sort and organize and pack. Lots to put closure to. Many memories. Many heartbreaks. But right now the only thing I can find the energy to do is to re-organize my Tupperware cupboard! Larr; Previous post. Next post →. Thoughts on “And Now She Knows”. August 6, 2014 at 6:28 pm.

Every Once in a While. Asymp; 1 Comment. Adoption; hurt children; transition; foster child. Every once in a while I find a moment of peace. A moment of support. Or a moment of joy amid all of the craziness of this transition. Tonight my moment of peace was in a routine I crave – late evening recliner sitting, catching up on emails, “something” on TV, and a night cap. L has settled back in and just today finished unpacking, again, all of her belongings she so angrily packed up a few weeks ago. She has...

A Candid Letter to the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services. Asymp; Leave a comment. Adoption; foster child; transition; neglect. I am utterly disappointed with you. We are a family in crisis. We might not look like one we have food in our fridge, we have gas in the car, my children are well educated, we are all healthy- but we are indeed a family in crisis and I brought that crisis to you so very many times, but rather than move quickly you counted your pennies. Who here stopped trying? And then ...

Asymp; Leave a comment. Adoption; foster child; transition; neglect. Just over 24 hours ago L left our home and ventured back to Ohio. Her departure was draped in a mix of hope, fear, grief, relief, sadness and the promise of peace – all around. We are quiet this weekend. The peace is welcomed – unusual. My “recovery” is best accelerated by purging all evidence of what once was. Her sleeping area in the lakehouse is now a reading corner. Her bedroom at home will become m...Larr; Previous post.
