1999, Grenoble, a few weeks after my arrival in France. Bright blue endless skies, sunshine and cool mountain breeze conspired to make me happy. And when I'm happy my fidgetyfingers want to make things out of paper. So this model began as a sort of 'celebration' of my new chapter in France. And eventually the unfinished model found it's resting place in a cardboard box in the damp confines of the basement. The unfinished model, 11 years later. The unfinished cockpit and engine bay. Built in 1995. I started coming across information and photographs of subsequent detail and just had to put together this fascinating shape! I had no profile views so I approximated surfaces and shapes ( sorry, perfectionists! It was great fun building this slab sided aerodynamic shape! The intake and IR aperture I covered with fine cloth to imitate a grill. I glued on bits of paper to imitate panels. The nose antennae are toothpicks. 1988 I had just joined design school and decided to build a superdetailed paper model. The theme was to be a crashed aircraft and I chose an all time favourite, the Bf 109 in the libyan desert, early forties. Perfectionists will certainly find details and proportions inaccurate.but it's ok, the pilot survived the crash! The engine block is made from paper (of course), guitar wire, toothpicks, telephone wire, bits of cork. Great fun doing that and then adding on the oil leaks. Even signed at the back haha.

Biplane of the 30's. Built in 1989, this little biplane was a gift for a girlfriend whom I was totally besotted with. When we parted ways years later I borrowed it back to photograph it. 22 years later and it's still 'borrowed'.oups! Couldn't help hanging onto it! I'm a solutions architect with my primary focus on infrastructure and integration, specifically around Virtual Server Optimisation; Infrastructure Agility; Internal Cloud Adoption; and Automation. Where do I work? Outside of work, I am a dad of three young kids, so most of my time is spent building Lego and Airfix models, depending on their mood! When I'm not with the kids, I run, surf and sail. Although I don't sail as much as I used to these days, I'm volunteer crew on my local RNLI.
