Ben and Laura in Brussels. It's in Belgium…. February 19, 2011 by Laura. As you may have noticed, I’ve become just a little bored with this blog. The problem I have is that, left to my own devices, I will simply whinge about things here. I really don’t want to do that, so I end up not writing at all. Let me introduce you to http:/ welcometobrussels.wordpress.com/. Please update your favourites, feed reader thingies, and lists of links accordingly. I’m still in the process of moving some of the appropriat...

Dinner on a tram?? Why not??!? | Welcome to Brussels
https://welcometobrussels.wordpress.com/2012/04/29/dinner-on-a-tram-why-not
Where sanity comes to die. Dinner on a tram? April 29, 2012. For my birthday, the boyf bought tickets for the Tram Experience. Although not especially clear from the title, this is a meal concocted by a Michelin starred chef and served on a two hour tram journey around Brussels, organised by the guys at Brusselicious. And sponsored by Electrolux. As it happened, our trip coincided with the recent week long tram strike, so we had the added novelty of being the only tram on the tracks that night. This was ...

Fixed Working Hours | Welcome to Brussels
https://welcometobrussels.wordpress.com/2012/10/07/fixed-working-hours
Where sanity comes to die. October 7, 2012. A 2010 article in The Economist mentioned the findings of a Eurobarometer opinion poll, concerned with finding a correlation between entrepreneurialism and age or nationality. The survey found Belgians especially keen on fixed working hours, a finding that rings true for anyone needing a Brussels plumber at the weekend. 375 hours per week. That is a lot of hours. Maybe you can negotiate to work less next time? Newer post →. October 13, 2012. Notify me of new po...

Where sanity comes to die. Newer posts →. Comment on dit…. June 20, 2011. I am terrible at translating French words into English. Unfortunately,. Either haven’t realised this yet, or they enjoy watching me suffer. It all started out simply enough. Comment on dit plâtre en anglais? You know, what you put on a broken bone.’. What do you call this? We say trombone.’. What do you call the snail without a house on his back? For the record plaster cast, paper clip, slug. I think we say the same’. W2B (dejected...

Where sanity comes to die. November 25, 2012. Place Lux is my idea of a living hell, so I only go there when coerced by friends who I can only assume find the location convenient – surely people don’t go there for any other reason? Last week a friend was in town for work, and since the location was convenient for her, I tagged along to meet her. Aside from the practical location, she was part of a big group, and the theory was that the Beer Factory was quite big, and we could sit there easily. It’s...

Le Pain Bénit | Welcome to Brussels

Where sanity comes to die. November 24, 2012. Do you also die a little bit inside when I talk about food? First attempt – not really talking so much about the food as my day. Eventually, the lights came back on, our pizzas were cooked, we ate them and we left feeling full and satisfied. I’d definitely stop here again if I fancied something sandwichey while in the area. I can’t remember if they had anything more substantial on the menu, but the sandwich selection was great. Newer post →. November 24, 2012.
