Reporting Terrorism
http://adrianmonck.com/2007/06/reporting-terrorism
Adrian monck's blog. June 20, 2007. It’s nearly two years since I wandered away. With the local battalion of the bold IRA,. For I read of our heroes, and wanted the same. To play out my part in the patriot game. I don’t mind a bit if I shoot down police. They are lackeys for war never guardians of peace. And yet at deserters I’m never let aim. The rebels who sold out the patriot game. The man who planned and led the action, Sean Garland, is in his seventies now. He’s wanted for extradition by U.S...There...
Half a century of British economic progress in one street
http://adrianmonck.com/2013/11/half-a-century-of-british-economic-progress-in-one-street
Adrian monck's blog. Half a century of British economic progress in one street. November 25, 2013. St Luke’s Terrace, Cobholm on Google Streetview. I was born in the front bedroom of the two bedroom house my grandparents rented from the council. It was February 1965, The Kinks at number one for homes with record players and without teenage mothers. A year later, my brother was born in the same room. No more coal fires, no more maltings, PVC window frames. Half a century of progress. There are a large num...
Journalism Education: My Unfinished Business
http://adrianmonck.com/2009/03/journalism-education-unfinished-business
Adrian monck's blog. Journalism Education: My Unfinished Business. March 19, 2009. Henever people ask me why I left television news. A world which I have to say I loved) to run a J-School. I never give the real answer. Because the real answer is just the name of someone they (and you) probably won’t ever have heard of: Richard Wild. Richard is gone now. He was shot dead in Baghdad. In 2003. I wrote the letter that got him in to Iraq. I neither suggested he go to Iraq, nor was I the cold-hearted bastard t...
The Trust Obsession
http://adrianmonck.com/2008/04/trust-obsession
Adrian monck's blog. April 28, 2008. Bills itself as the most trusted name in news. Director-General Mark Thompson. Reckons public trust is the life-blood of the BBC. Wail and tear their clothes in public at the public’s loss of trust in the media. Woe is us, wails the collective cry from the journalism profession, they don’t believe. On a royal documentary promo or phoney competitions, the mud cracks and it’s a crisis . Trust is also the currency of Nick Davies. Journalists are story tellers. The be...
Readings for a funeral
http://adrianmonck.com/2015/01/readings-for-a-funeral
Adrian monck's blog. Readings for a funeral. January 9, 2015. What do you read at a funeral? Something secular, something religious? The family tradition was ritual-free industrial incineration. Organ recording, coffin slips behind velvet curtain in the council crematorium. My religious belief perished during singing psalms to empty pews. But buried in the bible are fragments of practical advice that have sustained human beings for a very long time. 23 When the dead is at rest, let her remembrance rest, ...

The year of post-it-notes and mindfulness - Kristine Lowe
http://kristinelowe.blogs.com/kristine_lowe/2015/01/the-year-of-post-it-notes-and-mindfulness.html
The last edition of The Journalist. The end of Mecom. The year of post-it-notes and mindfulness. January 12, 2015. For a nethead and digerati like myself, 2014 was a year of ironies. For one, if I was to name the go-to-tool that played the most pivotal role for me at work last year, it has to be post-it-notes - and then there was that whole mindfulness business. And last year, I sort of re-discovered and came to lean heavily on post-it-notes - of all things. Besides, over the last few years I’ve found m...

Mangled Angles: Che: Part One - Biopic or not?
http://mangled-angles.blogspot.com/2009/01/che-part-one-biopic-or-not.html
MEDIA, CONFUSION, OPINION.LIBEL? Whatever you needed to know and some you didn't. Sunday, 11 January 2009. Che: Part One - Biopic or not? When is a biopic not quite a biopic? When it doesn’t explain the subject’s motivations? When it misses large chunks of the subject’s life? When it remains so faithful to account that it largely rejects context? All of these charges apply to. It is scarily close in narrative to Cuban hero Guevara’s. Reminisces of the Cuban Revolutionary War. However, this isn’t to...

The News of the World debate and This Week’s guests. 26 October, 2010 · 11:24 pm. Although I haven’t written anything on this blog for well over a year, people still seem to visit and I even get comments in the real world that colleagues, friends and foes have been reading it. Since my last post I now find myself working for the Daily Mail as a City Reporter. I was one of seven young journalists to be selected as part of the Mail’s trainee programme. Adrian monck's blog. Readings for a funeral. January 9, 2015. What do you read at a funeral? Something secular, something religious? My own close family’s history of ritual-less industrial incineration a few words, a recorded organ, the coffin slipping behind a faded velvet curtain in the crematorium offered little in the way of secular comfort. So today, this is what I will read at my sister’s funeral, adapted from the King James Bible. Neglect not her buriall. 22 Remember my iudgement: for thine also s...
