Tiger Beatdown: And Amanda Hess Is Out Of Town This Week: ROISSY Makes It Big
http://tigerbeatdown.blogspot.com/2009/08/and-amanda-hess-is-out-of-town-this.html
Thursday, August 6, 2009. And Amanda Hess Is Out Of Town This Week: ROISSY Makes It Big. Friends: let us go back in time. A time when I also fought with people about my blog! Or, to be more precise, a time when I fought with a person. About my blog. That person was my gentleman caller, and he was basically the only person who read it, and the fight was about the fact that he could not for the life of him see why I had written a post about noted doucheblogger Roissy in DC. It only made him more popular!

Stuff - with extra stuffing. Was not so warm. although the heatwaves which make railways buckle and koalas die of thirst are no fun, I kind of feel ripped off when I have to wear gloves for all but three weeks of summer. Stuff - with extra stuffing. Poached pears in mulled wine syrup. I rarely drink alcohol, but I love cooking with wine! This is one of my favourite dishes when the pears come into season. So go with your own tastes, especially when it comes to spices, sugar and orange. Remember clove is strong and so is star anise; if not used to spices, only use one or two cloves and a bit of a star anise. Cab Sav or Merlot (or whichever red wine you have available). A couple of Cinnamon sticks (or more if you like).

Stuff - with extra stuffing. Spiced rosewater and quince syrup. Recently, a pile of quinces appeared in my fruit bowl. My dad had picked them from a tree on the side of the road. I've never used quince before, but I love quince jelly. I was a bit uncertain about how to make jelly though, and looked for another way to use them. Turns out I don't much like quince as a fruit; the texture is somewhat dry and fibrous. But I loved the liquid they were boiled in! 4 thin slices of ginger. 8 tablespoons of sugar.
