Thinking about camping out in the cold? December 1, 2016. February 26, 2017. After a whirlwind Thanksgiving weekend with my family, Niecie and I were driving home to La Crosse when she asked about camping in the winter. Growing up, we did most of our camping in the spring, summer and fall. On occasion, we ventured out into the cold Minnesota winters to practice shelter building. My brother and I would build intricate snow caves and shelters together. Camping in the cold. Here are a few quick tips for enj...

Have Jeep – will travel. November 23, 2016. March 7, 2017. Back in March, I bought my dream car, a True Blue Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. I’d been drooling over this weird four-door convertible ever since I first saw one back in 2007. Growing up we’d always had 4x4s. In North-West Minnesota, it seemed likely everyone in the country owned at least one 4-wheel drive vehicle. During the winter, there were days when the only thing getting out of the driveway was my dad’s 98 Silverado. Heinlein’s Have Space Suit,...

Lessons learned in off-road recovery. November 12, 2016. February 26, 2017. In the last six months, I’ve learned a lot about driving off road. I’ve made my fair share of mistakes, and getting stuck has often been the consequence. Getting stuck off road can’t always be avoided. Tricky terrain can leave you stranded if you don’t have the right equipment and skills. How to recover a 4×4. While browsing one of my favorite Youtube channels 4xOverland. So what recovery equipment do you really need? If you tend...

A shocking lesson in hunting. Posted by guest author. December 13, 2016. February 26, 2017. I had a very shocking experience, recently, in my tenth season of hunting: I was shocked by an electric fence. Now, I know, one of the first things they teach you in firearm safety is to treat a wire fence as if it’s turned on. I remembered that, and I was still shocked. My shocking experience began with a gung-ho search for two big bucks my cousin saw behind his barn. Once free of the woods, I walked down into a ...

The Wrangler is back with a new heart. Project Wrangler is back, complete with a new factory-built engine banging away quietly under the hood. My Jeep has a new heart. After almost three weeks of extensive engine repairs, Fiat Chrysler had finally authorized the new engine. Within days of receiving authorization, I had my Jeep was back. No more ticking, tocking or knocking,…. Is the Wrangler dead? Repairs threaten project’s future. The dreaded Pentastar tick makes a ruthless return. The space in my trunk...

Monsoon Trek Day 2. June 27, 2015. July 26, 2015. Today we walked downhill to Kollur. Rain that continued from the previous day denied us the beautifull view of the mountains as we walked very vigilantly following this narraw trail around and down the hill. But I still loved the view of the mist covering the mountains. Feels like being in a different dimension. We visited the Mookambika temple. And boarded the bus back to Bangalore. 8220;Monsoon Trek” – Day 1. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Walking ten thou...

July 26, 2015. December 5, 2015. Strataca – Kansas Underground Salt Museum. Our first destination was Strataca Salt Museum in Hutchinson I was told. The drive to Hutchinson from Lawrence is around 4 hours, and we drove the highway that had beautiful view of the landscape on either side. With a weather that was sunny and cold with strong winds , we saw on the way lots of cultivated land, cattle farms and open terrain land where large number of oil rigs where functioning. I’ve heard stories of abandoned mi...

Venture Beneath the Skies
Venture Beneath the Skies. August 15, 2015. As I sit here, my room spins around me. I had my first real Herx reaction on my new antibiotics the other day. I thought I had the flu, but WAY worse. I was super dehydrated, shaking, felt like I had a fever, and even blacked out. Quite exciting. I honestly wondered if I was dying. Turns out… drumroll…. I’m not. In fact. Like I’m dying? That means the antibiotics are working. An adventuring spirit in a body that needs a nap. July 17, 2015. So what do I do?
