The pharisees got so wrapped up in piety (dutiful devotion to god and observance of religious principles - Thank you, Dictionary.com! That they had no relationship with God. They had no heart for holiness, but only a daily to-do and not-to-do list that they checked off as they went about their business. Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord? The ti...

Adventure 20-Somethings: October 2010
http://acc20somethings.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Wednesday, October 27, 2010. Faith and Deeds" expanded. The debate between faith and deeds as a means to salvation is one that theologians have debated over for ages. There is a seeming contradiction between James', "you gotta walk the walk" stance ( Jas 2:17. And Paul's stance in Romans that no amount of actions can change the fact that we are sinners in need of grace. This week in class (10/31) we will be looking at James 3:13-18. Compare it to Jesus' words in Matthew 23:23-24. Tuesday, October 12, 2010.

Adventure 20-Somethings: January 2011

Sunday, January 30, 2011. Cool Parallels between OT Sacrifice and Jesus. In the Old Testament there are a lot of rules about sacrificing, the different types of sacrificing and the rules for offering each. Hebrews 10 deals with Jesus as the final atonement sacrifice for our sins, and 1 Corinthians 5 calls Jesus our "Passover Lamb." Here are some interesting parallels that show how Jesus fits these descriptions. The passover lamb is to be "without defect" ( Ex. 12:5. Jesus never sinned ( Heb 4:15. The onc...

Adventure 20-Somethings: Timing is Everything
http://acc20somethings.blogspot.com/2011/04/timing-is-everything.html
Sunday, April 17, 2011. Today's post is a little different because I'm not sure I've found the answer to the question, and so your thoughts are totally welcome. This goes in the "food for thought" category. I guess my question is this. Without making too many assumptions about a history we simply don't have record of, what can we take and learn from those 17 years or so between this experience and Jesus' baptism in the Jordan? Adventure 20-Somethings: July 2010
http://acc20somethings.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, July 22, 2010. Today's post is based on the rest of Acts 10. We see a couple of interesting things here:. His clarification of Law in v.28 is simply to state how important this must have been. Surely they knew they asked him to defy his law. God's salvation is extended to all "who fear Him and do what is right" (v.35). Author Warren Wiersbe says it this way:. His religion is a part of his culture and it's a shame to change his culture! God does not see it that way. Apart from hearing the me...

Adventure 20-Somethings: November 2010
http://acc20somethings.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, November 30, 2010. The general voice of the proverbs preaches a message that, on the one hand, there are those who disobey God's law. These individuals are repeatedly called "fools" and their behaviors are marked as "folly." On the other hand are those who choose to live in line with God's will. These folks are called "wise" and their life choices show "wisdom.". Sunday, November 7, 2010. The Old Testament in Five Minutes. God chooses Abraham to father his chosen people;. Adventure 20-Somethings: God's message: consistent from the start!
http://acc20somethings.blogspot.com/2011/02/1-samuel-has-been-one-of-my-favorite.html
Tuesday, February 8, 2011. God's message: consistent from the start! 1 Samuel has long been one of my favorite books in the Bible. Some of the stories are well known, like Samuel's call and David v. Goliath, while others are less renowned. One of my favorite chapters in the book is chapter 15. Because it brings a New Testament kind of lesson into the Old Testament context. That doesn't sound like the total annihilation that God asked for. Samuel's next move was to confront Saul. God told him what had...
