Our boat, the Adventurer II, is a tunnel hull vessel built especially to tackle the rapids and serene waterway of the mighty Whanganui River. In 2008 Baldwin Adventure Tours decided to build a boat to brave the 239 rapids between Wanganui and Taumarunui. We wanted to give travellers the opportunity to experience yesteryears river travel as thousands of people did decades ago. The Adventurer II is a tunnel hull vessel, capable of navigating knee deep water while carrying passengers and luggage.

Canoe and jet boat trips are extremely popular but there can be no equal to the experience of shooting a long twisting rapid in a large flat-bottomed workhorse of yesteryear while at the same time enjoying the comfort of a modern riverboat. The Adventurer II offers this experience and is the only large passenger vessel to brave the 239 rapids as the Rhine of New Zealand snakes 146 miles to the sea - a sight not seen for about 100 years. We conduct cruise trips to Hipango Park all year round and other trips further up-river subject to adequate water levels. The river is divided into three sections and each provides a quite different experience that cannot be equalled of boating up-river with winching and poling or downriver shooting the rapids.
