What's next..: April 2015

http://adventuresaftergraduating.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Saturday, 18 April 2015. Over the pond #1 and 2. In November (2014) and February (2015) I took trips across the Atlantic to see some of my American friends that I met first in South Africa in 2013! I went to North Carolina and New York and took many many pictures - only a few of which I'll put up on here because otherwise it becomes mostly a picture blog. At some point in the future we will all have a proper reunion somewhere - i'm sure of it! This man comes and reads Harry Potter aloud. Well it's been a...

Monday, 28 July 2014. So many secret beaches to graffiti! So life on Sherkin is very warm at the moment - highs of around 29 (degrees C) recently - which is only a few degrees below the all time hottest temperature ever recorded in Ireland. The radio informed us that temperatures in parts of London reached 32 degrees! Which I think is far too warm to be in London. I'm glad to be by the sea during this mini heat wave. Is a little more like rock. Climbing. I should've. Glaudine keeping an eye on us? But th...

What's next..: One last dive (or 3)

http://adventuresaftergraduating.blogspot.com/2015/09/one-last-dive-or-3.html

Sunday, 6 September 2015. One last dive (or 3). During the dive we saw lots of Port Jackson sharks, big blue groupers, grey nurse sharks, huge shoals of little bullseye, and a few other things (including some nice colourful starfish). Here are some of the (very many) photos that I took. I borrowed someone's fabulous underwater camera because mine is currently throwing a bit of a wobbly and needs time out. This post is basically just pictures - it doesn't really need much else to be honest. A few of them!

Thursday, 14 August 2014. Having been on Sherkin Island for almost 2 months I have now had to say goodbye to the beautiful place and my fellow Marine Station Bods. I have had a great time exploring the little island, trying out a new aspect of marine biology, and boggling (among many other things). I am sad to have left - although I am a little excited to not have to prepare meals for 8 again any time soon! Final photos - courtesy of Robbie Murphy. Don't we all look very. Well behaved and smiley? There i...

Thursday, 26 June 2014. Glaudine is still hanging around. On top of the normal data collection that we do here at the Marine Station, other projects are also done to examine specific aspects of the marine biology of Sherkin. For the last couple of days we have been collecting data for the ‘Sargassum Project’. Sargassum is an invasive seaweed species that originated in Asia and has been increasingly found in Europe (including Sherkin). Sargassum mats can become so thick that they can damage boats and make...

Sunday, April 29, 2012. My bed is a pool and the walls are on fire. Today, I would like to complain about the heat. And now, terrible examples of how hot it is. I don't know what the actual temperature is- maybe 110 degrees? But I can express my extreme suffering. (Okay, it's not that extreme. But I can still hate it.). My cat looks like he's about to die. He wheezes as he pants, his tongue sticking out and his sides moving so fast I can't even count. Needless to say, it is highly discouraging. This is m...
