Adventures in Anyang

Tuesday, February 14, 2012. Well, I suppose I should update you on things the last year. As you know, I left for Spain in fall of 2010, studied a teaching certificate (fantastic program) and worked there for a few months. Spain was tough, getting a VISA was next to impossible, which means I had to earn a little under the table to survive. Came back to Korea in March of 2011. Which means next month my year-long contract expires. Let me tell you about this job, as it is the. Each class I see. I got to know...

Adventures in Anyang: May 2010

http://adventuresinanyang.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Wednesday, May 5, 2010. Secret Garden in Changdeokgung. Its been a month and a half already since my last post. i swore i'd post more often but time sure does fly :). It appears the cold weather has finally broken. its been an extremely mild spring, last week i was even considering bringing my scarf as the wind cool air was numbing my face in the morning. the past 3 days have been beautiful- you can feel the humidity rising up, so in no time i will be longing for the cold winters again :).

Adventures in Anyang: March 2010

http://adventuresinanyang.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Monday, March 22, 2010. Wait, you're how old? Zaks and I- East coast of Korea. When new students come into my class this is the typical exchange:. Me: So, you're a university student? What are you studying? Student: I am 45 and have 3 children in college. Me: I'm sorry. what? I doubt its just me, but koreans in general look very very young. I have since learned to stop guessing students ages, nor assuming that they are students. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Wait, youre how old? View my complete profile.

Adventures in Anyang: October 2009

http://adventuresinanyang.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Wednesday, October 28, 2009. Despite the small stature of Koreans, they do manage to grow the largest maple leaf I have ever seen. These things are maple trees on steroids. I'm pretty sure if one fell on my head while I was walking by I would be suffocated by it's immense size. At the second biggest peak of Moraksan. One of many, many apartment complexes. Literally 9/10 buildings you see in the skyline are apartment highrises. Sarah and I relaxing on a rock near the peak. Sunday, October 18, 2009. My fir...

Adventures in Antiquing - On the Trail of All Things Collectible

On the Trail of All Things Collectible. Caring About Things That Last. The current bastardization of language runs parallel to the general decline of standards in manufactured goods. There is a lack of concern for quality as a measurement of suitability for the many common things in our lives. We accept lower quality from everyday items as if it had no effect on utility much less beauty. Items of everyday use freeze in our memories like often repeated words in a favorite book. I have a new post in the wo...

Adventures in Antofagasta - Home

September 23, 2011. I just set up Annie's first blog! When she is down in Antofagasta, Chile, she will tell us about her day to day adventures! I will miss her very much! Oh my god I'm a technical genius. I figured out (all by myself! How to move all my writings to a "blog" format rather than just a website page. So just click on that little tab that says Blog next to where it says Home, and there it is! Leave me some comments! Because that's why I've gone to this trouble of moving it. haha.

Adventures in Aperture

A 20 something's escapades in photography and brewing! Tuesday, November 27, 2012. Mead for the peasants! So I've been toying around with making a mead for quite some time and a quick trip to the annual Maryland Renn Fair pushed me over the edge. I was able to buy a basic mead (melomel really) kit from the local beekeepers for about 20 bucks. The kit consisted of 2 lbs of wildflower honey, some basic dried cherry like ingredients, raisins, and some dried champagne yeast. Friday, November 23, 2012. I took...

Sunday, 10 March 2013. 3/17 Came back to AL and split the hive with the swarm cells in. Made two hives with 4 frames of things in each. The worked on was the same one which had swarm cells in on 3/3. Now have 11 hives at AL and 2 at home. 3/10 Split the hive in the backyard into three. Found one fully capped swarm cell. One of the hive transported to AL. Worked well as I think we took a few worker bees with it which then oriented at the new location. Now have 10 hives at AL and 2 at home. 3/10 Transferre...

Monday, September 5, 2011. Thieving from the Bees. The honey harvest is on! Actually it's probably just about over. We've been harvesting from our three hives for the last 5 weeks and have collected almost 20 gallons of honey! We have sold several bottles of honey to friends and colleagues, and we're working out the details of getting honey on the shelves of the garden center, where two of our hives are housed. The garden center folks are super excited to have honey from their very own grounds, and s...

Thursday, March 17, 2011. POSTCARD FROM MORETON BAY. After several sailing trips where I’ve wanted to keep going and stay out overnight, I’m now embarking on a 10 day sailing adventure in Wiley Witch, my Court 550 (18 ft) sailboat. Most of Monday was spent preparing ….buying food, dry ice and propane, loading the boat, installing the vhf radio…lots of last minute activity, like buying small bulldog clips so my saucepan and skillet won’t slip off the gas burner when the boat rocks. So I motored out of the...
