Adventures in Art: January 2009

http://www.adventuresinartstudentswspecialneeds.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html

Art ideas for students with special needs. Monday, January 19, 2009. To make this large abstract painting I made long brushes with a dowel rod and yarn. I then placed the paper and paint on the floor. From their chairs the students moved the "brushes" around the paper. Working with a student. The students used medicine droppers to apply paint to the paper. It spread out and soaked in. They then stamped circles on their paper with half of a paper towel roll. I added a handle on the other end o...I have do...

Art ideas for students with special needs. Wednesday, December 10, 2008. These are the simplest things in the world but I use them on a daily basis. Wednesday, December 3, 2008. The color field painter Morris Louis inspired this project. I saw a great show of his work last year in D.C. He stuff is so subtle and beautiful; I could stare at it all day. Tuesday, December 2, 2008. It was a good day. When you work in a place like I do you appreciate small miracles. Monday, December 1, 2008. I'm half way thru ...

Adventures in Art: Color Field Painting

http://www.adventuresinartstudentswspecialneeds.blogspot.com/2010/05/color-field-painting.html

Art ideas for students with special needs. Wednesday, May 12, 2010. In this Project we looked at the work of two abstract artists: Morris Louis and Helen Frankenthaler. Both were a part of the color field painting movement of the 1960’s and 70’s. These artists used many different tools in place of brushes to paint with. They would use raw canvas and liquefied paint to create large abstract works. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Art for students with special needs. Spring Art Show; part 2.

Art ideas for students with special needs. Monday, April 26, 2010. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. I have always loved the book Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and thought this would make a great interdisciplinary lesson to do at my school. I teamed up with one of the really great teachers at my school and started this month long project. She read the book in class and did other lessons that focused on the things that happened in the book and food in general. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

A collaborative art experience. Aspire's Southern Tier iXpress artistjust completed an exciting project, called "The Community Tapestry Workshop- Weaving the Community Together.". Hey Come and See us! Here is how the project developed: First, we learned the basic of weaving as art form on individual frame looms at Mall Boulevard's iXpress program. Then, together, we developed the ideafor a larger scale, group tapestry project: How about "painting" a landscape, with yarn? There is something for everone to...

A collaborative art experience. Ani Hoover inspires the Center for Learning. When we returned to the school we started our own circle painting. Each class chose a season to base the colors in their painting. The students then filled the 9 foot long paper witih bright circular stamps of color. They also used stencils and liquid tempera paint in spray bottles to make more circles. The paint dripped down the paper just like in Ani Hoover's work. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

A collaborative art experience. Southern Tier's Community Labyrinth Project. 1 General Introductory Info. The parking lot labyrinth experience at Mall Boulevard helped us come up with an answer to the question, "what is a labyrinth? A labyrinth is, simply, a path that invites us into a created space, leads us to the center, and then back out again. Labyrinths of all shapes and sizes have been created by many different cultures for many centuries, for the purposes of meditation, exercise and enjoyment.

A collaborative art experience. Pottery at the Co-Op. Jody and Sarah trying out the wheel. At the Co-Op art facilitator Jody has been having ceramics classes once a week. This past week she pulled out the big guns, the pottery wheel! Judging from all the pictures the brave guys that tried it out were delighted as well as a little grossed out from the texture of the wet clay. There's nothing like good old messy fun in the art room! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
