Adventures in Llamaland
Everything Fascinating and Otherwise in the World of Dainéal James Parker. Saturday, December 25, 2010. Take it to the blogosphere. Because verbalizing it is too heavy. Because my guitars are stowed away in their cases in my closet under toolboxes and dirty clothes and that's too much effort. Because my piano is on its side against the wall behind the couch. Because it has to come out somehow and these days I don't write enough. God laughed at me . Thursday, October 7, 2010. Stir Me in My Sleep. There's ...

Adventures in Load Testing
Adventures in Load Testing. Living Life on the Edge of Mediocrity in the Load Testing World! Thursday, January 28, 2010. Using R to Plot Universal Scaling Law Curve Automagically. The past two days I was doing some benchmarking of a system that might be used to stub back end systems and I was very interested in generating an USL curve based upon the benchmark data I was producing. In previous posts I had shown how to use R to generate the kappa and sigma coefficients for use with the USL equation. IndexV...

Adventures in Loafing | Travel for flâneurs
Fond memories: Pissing on Texas. I’ve been absent, but I haven’t been loafing; I’ve been busy planning and executing a new life in Southern California. About four years ago, my husband and I moved to Austin, Texas. We’d bought into the city’s hype about being the “blueberry in the red sauce” of the state of Texas, along with its promises of jobs and an inexpensive cost of living, and set up shop in the “live music capital of the world.”. Our apartment complex didn’t even recycle! The rental truck that ha...

adventuresinlofi | Just another WordPress.com site
Just another WordPress.com site. Petit bilan des films vus à la mi-année. July 5, 2015. Petit bilan des films vus cette première moitié d’année, des films pour la plupart bons voire excellents même si j’ai peut-être été moins curieux et aventureux qu’auparavant. It Follows (David Robert Mitchell). Première claque esthétique de l’année avec ce film qui reproduit parfaitement l’atmosphère angoissante des séries B d’horreur des années 80. Le film reste assez ouvert sur la question mais esquisse quelques pis...

Adventures in London
Wednesday, April 13, 2011. That's All, London! Well friends, this is it. My grand and awesome adventures have come to an end. Today is my last day in London. It is a day full of mixed emotions! I think the closest I came to crying was when I had to tell the lady at the chocolate store I was leaving for America tomorrow and would never be returning again. It's been a rough few days, full of laughter and tears. I've never been more bipolar in my life! An experience I will never ever forget! I actually do h...

Adventures in Loom Knitting
Adventures in Loom Knitting. Loom Knit Hoxey Cowl. January 25, 2016. January 30, 2016. Ever since the Winter issue of Interweave Knits. Came out I’ve been itching to make the Hoxey Cowl by Meghan Huber. I knew right away it would be a good candidate for converting to the loom. In fact, there really wasn’t anything to convert. The Hoxey Cowl is knit in the round so for us loom knitters that means we don’t have to do anything in order to make the pattern work. Hooray! For the loom I chose the All-n-One.

Going Hollywood: Adventures in Los Angeles
Going Hollywood: Adventures in Los Angeles. Fun and random things to do in Los Angeles. Tuesday, February 19, 2008. For when you just have to play Ms. Pac-Man in a dive bar in Koreatown, Miss T's Barcade is your best bet. To really cinch that aura of "WTF is this place really? The DJ was spinning some post pre-modern, new old school, techno-esque music. But to his credit, the DJ was spinning actual vinyl. With it's hidden location and offbeat vibe, Barcade feels like a secret that you've been let in on; ...
