Adventures in the Big O. Recipes from my Ottawa kitchen to yours. Saturday, October 1, 2011. Add 500g (more/less) fresh cranberries. 1/4 amount of sugar as cranberries. A few shots of Port (only for Christmas). One stick of cinnamon (or 1/2 tsp ground) (only for Christmas). Put pan on stove and start to warm. Add sugar and cranberries to pan and stir. Add a few shots of port and a stick of cinnamon. Add zest of one orange (none of bitter white pith). Stir gently. Add the juice of the orange.

Two garlic cloves peeled and crushed in sea salt. Handful of fresh basil. Cut veggies into 1/8 or 1/6 to remove bitterness from big eggplants, zucchini put sea salt on them and place in colander for 30 mins, rinse and dry them - no need if they are little and sweet. Kathleen's Almond and Apricot Coffee Cake. 1 c butter or margarine. 1 1/2 c. sugar. 1 c sour cream or plain yogurt. 3/4 tsp almond or vanilla extract (optional). 2 c all-purpose flour. 1 tsp baking powder. 3/4 c sliced almonds, divided. 1 Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition until smooth and fluffy. Add in sour cream (or yogurt) and extract. 100% Whole Wheat Bread.

Adventures in the Big O. Recipes from my Ottawa kitchen to yours. Saturday, June 12, 2010. Roasted Red, Yellow and Orange Peppers. Red and yellow peppers with cores removed. 3 garlic cloves peeled and cut into slivers (thin slices). Handful of fresh basil (lots) or oregano (less). Grill whole peppers on all sides and when skins are mostly black put them in a paper bag and close the bag (BBQ or in the oven at 400F and turn them). When cool remove blackened skin by rubbing peppers in your hand.

Thursday, August 19, 2010. So this is it for the 'burg. I've left and am back in the north. We're still in Rochester (no internet, so I'm at a cafe right now while C continues to unpack), and will head to the city Sunday.
