Just another WordPress.com weblog. When you have biological kids, why don’t they (“they” is a fluid term ’cause I really don’t know exactly who I am talking about) fingerprint you and do background checks and check up on your financial status and have someone come to your house to interview you? My character flaw has greatly shining through in this process: If I don’t know exactly how to do something, I don’t do it… or at least I put it off til the last possible minute. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Archive August, 2011. One thing Andrew and I feel strongly about is not simply adopting a child to fulfill our desire to grow our family – we are adopting to take care of God’s children. We are called to care for orphans and, however excited and freaked out we are, we are moving forward to fulfill this calling. Here are some staggering facts that I had read from a new adoption friend’s blog. An entire generation of parents are no longer; there are 4.4 million orphans.

Just another WordPress.com weblog. One of Andrew’s love language is hiking. His birthday was a couple weeks ago so we went to Zion National Park in Utah. It was incredible. Andrew was a little huffy about pulling off on the side of the freeway to take this one but he did well to humor me. This part kinda freaked me out the first time through, but on the way back we just let go and swam with the current. Just another amazing hike. An amazing birthday celebration week with my husaband. So, Andrew and I hav...

Living and Dining in PDX. A newly minted 30-something who's learning that she finally fits in, exploring the Pacific Northwest, and savoring life. December 13, 2011. Now, there are a lot of great Pho places here in Portland. You can easily find a local joint serving pipping hot Pho in almost every neighborhood. In North Portland there is Pho Jasmine. Which is a little hole in the wall kind of place. There is Pho Van. On Hawthorne. And there is Jade Bistro. I had to try it. Start with 1/2 of a small onion...

Just another WordPress.com weblog. Archive May, 2011. We got 21 students to Texas and brought 21 back. That in and of itself means the trip was a success. =). Most of the pics I took are of my students that I won’t post on my blog but here are a few that I can…. This is one of NASA’s rocket scientists (yes, I said rocket scientist) that taught us about rocketry and showed the students how to make their own rockets. Then we went outside and had a little rocket launching contest. This is the world’s ...

Just another WordPress.com weblog. We are taking foward steps in our adoption from Ethiopia process. Andrew and I just finished our homestudy interviews and are ready to start out immigration (called a dossier) paperwork. Homestudy means the social worker that was assigned to our case came to our home to check it out and interview us. We did one interview at the house together and then we did another day of interviews where he sat down with me and Andrew individually. Another trip to DC. I think of you o...

Just another WordPress.com weblog. Archive October, 2010. Its been a while. If you read my blog consistently (and I thank you for being interested in my rants) you have figured out that I go in waves with my blog posts. I am not sure why I do this. I have ideas for posts but just don’t sit down to type them out. Right now I am distracted by watching The Office Season 6. Funny. I promise more posts will come soon. It was so bad, I had to watch it in sections and I just finished it today. So I decided to f...

Just another WordPress.com weblog. Archive March, 2011. God provides. Absolutely. Friday I found out that the “maybe” trip I have been planning to take 22 of my students to the Johnson Space Center in Houston has become a “definately.”. In 2 and a half months, God provided over $20,000 to make the trip possible. I AM SO EXCITED. I guess I will sleep in June… but this is worth it. Kids in the System. Did you know…. Only 50% of kids who are in the foster system graduate from High School. So Andrew and I to...
