Monday, August 15, 2011. Not Quite Double Nickels. There were 3 route options for the 2011 Bridge Pedal in Portland, OR this past weekend. We chose the shortest route. 6 bridges in 13 miles. Mrs Smitty and I rousted ourselves and the kids out of bed and got ourselves and our bikes onto the MAX light-rail into downtown from our hotel in the suburbs. Sunday, November 15, 2009. The Golden State Says Crazy. We had a relatively quiet Friday in Barstow before more family would come for the weekend. Trains fascinate the kids, so we walked down to the train station to get a closer look. We checked out the Route 66 and railroad museums but the kids were most interested to explore the locomotives and cabooses in the yard. On the walk back to the house we found a preying mantis. The week went so quickly, and we were suddenly on an airplane headed home.

Monday, August 3, 2009. A Boundy of Places Named Deception. We made a last minute change to our original plan to go on a family-backpacking trip with some friends to a lake near Stevens Pass. Friday, December 4, 2009. King of the Lord Hill and a beaver pond. Haven’t taken the kids out for a blog worthy adventure in a while. We’ve had a few days of crystal clear weather and even though we didn’t take full advantage, we did get out a little. Our first excursion was to Carkeek Park. Thursday, October 1, 2009. Wiggly Salmon Sand Bridge vs The Yurt Monster. Took the kids to a new (to us) park yesterday. Our intent was to meet up with friends and hike a few of the trails along the river and/or to a scenic hilltop bench. We met our friends in the parking lot but got a little side tracked playing so didn’t get much hiking done, but the kids had a great time… which is more important than how many miles we cover. Sunday, November 7, 2010. Back in the Saddle. For whatever reason I rarely bring the camera on our outings anymore. I often regret that decision once we're out. This past week we had a few days of stellar weather and I thought to bring the camera. before we left the house. Sunday, July 31, 2011. The Canoe Of Deception. For a change of scenery we decided to take the Ferry to Whidbey Island and drive up the island rather than drive up I-5. The driving mileage is shorter but when you factor in waiting for the ferry and the lower speed limit on the island, it's not the fast way. That was fine with us though because we got a relatively early start and didn't need to be there by any particular time. With enough imagination a toy boat or sandcastle mold can be a stylish hat.
