Adventures of a Michigander. March 3, 2016. March 20, 2016. After our 5-hour hike we arrive at our homestay in the early afternoon. View from the balcony beds. We got a tour of the property and then it was time to start making dinner from scratch. And when we say ‘scratch’ we mean Troy had to kill a chicken. Luckily, I missed that part.). In this photo, our guide Diego is insisting that he was just giving the chicken a ‘bath’. I helped cut veggies and stoke the fire. Look at this spread! SE Asia Trip 2014.

We are still working out an itinerary. We are startin...

Adventures of a Michigander. Hike to a Sapa Homestay. February 16, 2016. February 16, 2016. We did a 4-hour turnaround in Hanoi after our Ha Long Bay experience. It was a whirlwind but saved us a night in a hotel since we were on the overnight train to Sapa. Unfortunately, it was not the idyllic, restful train ride we were expecting. Our ancient, rattly, bumpy train to Sapa. And too late, we heard that there is a new road from Hanoi and you can take a brand new sleeper bus. With Wi-Fi for $15 each way!

Adventures of a Michigander. November 3, 2014. May 6, 2015. I left Kyoto determined to get more than a glimpse at Mt. Fuji. I didnt need to climb it- especially after Mt. Ontake had erupted earlier in the week. I just wanted to see Fuji. So, I hopped on the Shinkensen for a few hours, transfered to a tram to head up into the mountains near Hakone. I arrive in Gora after dark and found my hostel (Hakone Tent) and had some dinner. My hostel also had a turntable… in the kitchen. Is it by this pirate sihp?

The Adventures of a Mermaid Poet
Tuesday, January 6, 2015. The following prose is a re-telling of Hans Christian Anderson's "The Little Mermaid". As you know, I love mermaids. I also love the fairy tales written by Anderson. I wanted to take the beloved story of my childhood and retell it through the eyes of a young adult. Hopefully, Anderson would enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it. Lights, thousands of lights, in an ebony sea of sparks. Colors - glinting, exploding mid-air. A wooden mammoth slicing the sea-foam,. Toget...
The Adventures of Amy
The Adventures of Amy. Tuesday, September 30, 2008. Yesterday after 6 hours of class I rolled into my car as it was past 10 and I was tired and ready to be home. Going the Distance | Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us . . . (Hebrews 12:1)
Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us . . . (Hebrews 12:1). Part Seven — Homer to Gambier. October 8, 2016. It was the home stretch now! I was tired and sore, but I knew that once I made it through the next 17 miles or so, I would officially have completed my first century ride. So I climbed back in the saddle and set my sights on Gambier. 8221; A guy beside me added, “But hopefully not upward! 8221; and we got a good laugh out of that. Remember the red cowbell? I could hear the finish ...
