Adventures on the Fly: February 2014
http://www.adventuresonthefly.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Adventures on the Fly. Fly fishing and everything else related. Saturday, February 1, 2014. A Graveyard Without Bones. The sea has provided me with a bounty of mysterious encounters that have left me in contemplative wonder. I suppose that is why I return to chase what seem like mere specters of the deep. I'll see if I can pick a bone out of this graveyard closer to spring. Sand bass. A new addition to my species list. A real wall hanger. The spotties were slightly larger than Tidelands.
Adventures on the Fly: March 2013
http://www.adventuresonthefly.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Adventures on the Fly. Fly fishing and everything else related. Saturday, March 30, 2013. We headed over to Puddingstone Reservoir not knowing what the expect. It is a large lake for the pram and we wanted to find a launch point closest to one of the prime bass spots. It was a nightmare getting my boat on the water to say the least. A younger version of Lieutenant Ramathorn from Super Troopers. Let me see your boat registration sir. My first bass on topwater! We made multiple drifts around this lagoon bu...
Adventures on the Fly: The Last Pale Light in the West
http://www.adventuresonthefly.blogspot.com/2014/10/the-last-pale-light-in-west.html
Adventures on the Fly. Fly fishing and everything else related. Sunday, October 5, 2014. The Last Pale Light in the West. I took five days to trophy hunt in northern California. The Truckee river left me with a bittersweet taste after losing what would have been my personal best brown trout. Kypezilla has been on my mind ever since. Those 20 inches of copper colored scales, butter yellow fins and belly, kyped out jaw… yeah that big buck has haunted me ever since. Adventures on the Fly.

Adventures on the Fly: Thunderstorms, Camp Fires and Dry Flies
http://www.adventuresonthefly.blogspot.com/2015/06/thunderstorms-camp-fires-and-dry-flies.html
Adventures on the Fly. Fly fishing and everything else related. Sunday, June 21, 2015. Thunderstorms, Camp Fires and Dry Flies. Cold clear water was once again called me back. With the mercury rising in the canyons, I decided to let the truck do the work to get me into the high country. The weather was seemingly perfect and the feisty little golden trout and brown trout were plentiful. Both species attacked dry flies with reckless, violent grabs. Just enough to put the bend in the 4wt. Cold beer in hand.

The Search for Native Salmonids: April 2013
http://shocchris.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Friday, April 19, 2013. This Crazy March Weather - Part Two. I had planned this Good Friday trip a few weeks in advance so when Maryland received nearly twelve inches of snow earlier in the week, there was no backing out. In addition, I hadn't fished this area of western Maryland in almost nine years! It's hard to believe just two weeks prior to this I was wet wading in near 80 degree weather. What do they say about March coming in like a lamb? After getting rid of that skunky smell, I soon picked up ano...

Sunday, September 1, 2013. Colorado 2013 - Rocky Mountain National Park Backcountry. Earlier this year I received an amazing invitation from a fellow backcountry blogger. Keith is a resident of Colorado and maintains the blog Colorado Alpine Angler. He sent me an invitation I couldn't possibly turn down - a long weekend in the RMNP backcounry. I've fished all over the park but I've never taken the time (as Keith did) to secure a backcountry campsite permit, so I was all over this opportunity! As typical ...
The Search for Native Salmonids: October 2012
http://shocchris.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Saturday, October 27, 2012. For the past three months I have been absolutely buried at work! I even cut my California trip in half due to my workload. I'm sure that my situation is not much different than many folks and this is a fishing blog, not a forum to whine about my lack of time on the stream. When a break in my schedule coincided with a late-October forecast for near eighty degree temperatures, I knew it was time for a day trip! I was due too! I tied on a fuzzy dry fly and started prospecting the...
The Search for Native Salmonids: Colorado 2014 - Let's Get Serious (Part 2)
http://shocchris.blogspot.com/2015/02/colorado-2014-lets-get-serious-part-2.html
Thursday, February 12, 2015. Colorado 2014 - Let's Get Serious (Part 2). When I finished Part 1 of this trip entry, I had taken a rest day to prepare for the 5-day backpacking portion of my trip. In hindsight, I'm glad I took the day off but I was three days into my Colorado adventure and I had yet to touch a fish. This 5-day adventure would be my longest backpack trip, to date, and my pack weighed in at roughly 50 pounds. This would also be the first real test of my new Osprey Xenith 88 pack. The initia...
The Search for Native Salmonids: December 2014

Tuesday, December 23, 2014. Another New Member to the Sport. A couple of things I enjoy most of this sport: exploring new places/water and introducing new people to the sport of fly fishing. I get equal enjoyment out of both! The interesting thing about this individual is that a few years earlier I taught his dad how to fly fish and I also took his dad to Colorado for the first time in 2011. Father and son sharing the moment. Junior" with his first trout on a fly rod; a nice, native West Virginia brookie.

Sunday, July 21, 2013. West Virginia Trout Bummin - Rain, Rain, Rain. The final leg of my West Virginia Trout Bummin Adventure would conclude on the upper Williams watershed in a USFS campground. After finishing up my first leg, I made a short stop on a trib of the Slatyfork section of the Elk. I had fished this stream (stream #11) a few years earlier and landed several small brookies. I had since received reports of wild rainbows in this stream and I had t find out for myself. The first trib (stream #12...

The Search for Native Salmonids: January 2015

Friday, January 2, 2015. Spruce, WV - 2014. My backpacking trip last year to the old logging community of Spruce. Got quite a bit of attention from my facebook and TU friends. I did a presentation on the trip at a local TU meeting and made an open invitation for a return visit this year. As always, we had a good turnout for the 7th Annual Bucket Brigade. OK, rant over, time to get back to Spruce. A couple of them actually started to set up camp right beside us! After getting camp set up, we spoke with th...

Adventures on the Blue - Victoria BC Sea Kayak Blog and Travel Journal
My kayak has been stolen from my car :( It was stolen around 7-10pm on Thursday, January 3 from the 1100 block of Pacific Street in Vancouver. It's a mango deck Nimbus Telkwa. I'm totally stunned - somehow they got through the lock and straps on a very busy main road in Vancouver. They busted up one side of my roof rack doing it too! Who the hell steals a kayak anyway. I'm super bummed - screw 2013 already. Thursday, January 3, 2013. In kayaking related news, I just read that Paula finally got to do her ...

Adventures on the brightside
Adventures on the brightside. 31st May – International Frisbee Day. I took a couple of liberties with this one. Firstly, it didn’t happen on the 31st and secondly, I didn’t go near the frisbee! The weekend of the 26th and 27th brought glorious weather and I spent the entire weekend in Sefton Park enjoying the sunshine with some lovely friends. On the Sunday Jamie turned up with a frisbee. Great, I thought, International Frisbee Day is coming up so lets do it early! After about an hour of doing this….
