Adventures to a Sustainable Future: January 2015

http://adventurestoasustainablefuture2.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Adventures to a Sustainable Future. Tuesday, January 27, 2015. January 7, 2015. Do I have the best parents in the world, or what? Let me elaborate on just one of the resent events that enforces the conclusion that I have the best parents in the world. On the day that marked six months in country (six months people! Can you believe it? Six months away from family and friends, away from basic amenities I took for granted, away from American food, oh how I miss American food! And as it ended up, after waiti...

Adventures to a Sustainable Future: Waterfall

http://adventurestoasustainablefuture2.blogspot.com/2016/07/waterfall.html

Adventures to a Sustainable Future. Thursday, July 14, 2016. There is a huge waterfall in my site. It takes about an hour to hike there from my house and I've been there many times. Each guest I bring and I always speculate how tall we think it is. Well no more speculation is needed because one day I hiked up to the top of the waterfall with some community members in order to measure it. This waterfall in about 150 feet tall! And did I mention beautiful? And has a great swimming hole?

Adventures to a Sustainable Future: Yet Another Hike

http://adventurestoasustainablefuture2.blogspot.com/2016/07/yet-another-hike.html

Adventures to a Sustainable Future. Thursday, July 14, 2016. Apparently I don't do enough hiking in my day to day life in site. Here are a few photos from another mountain I decided I wanted to climb to the top of. This is Cerro Ciri Grande and it's in a community fairly close to mine. See that peak far off in the distance? That's the mountain we are going to climb. Did I mention we had to hike from one volunteer's site to another volunteer's site first? A baby horse we saw at the base of the mountain.

Bread and Honey: More Unlimited

http://breadandhoney-barbara.blogspot.com/2013/02/more-unlimited.html

Friday, February 15, 2013. I just found this post in my draft folder. Not sure why I didn't post it when I wrote it in 2009, about a month after our trip to Ethiopia to pick up the kids. Makes me want to go back to Addis. My friend, Liz, writes a great blog about her quest for fitness. She loves the theater. She has taken her frustration about her body and made her quest for healthy self-love and self-care into a performance. I love her writing. This entry. Is about living within our means. So much of wh...

Bread and Honey: The Secret of the Five-day Vacation

http://breadandhoney-barbara.blogspot.com/2013/02/the-secret-of-five-day-vacation-i-have.html

Sunday, February 3, 2013. The Secret of the Five-day Vacation. I have discovered a low-investment/high-yield activity that could change your life. But, you could use it a little bit at a time and get a lot more bang for you buck. You can do that THREE or FOUR times a year with your precious vacation time. Get a real break from work, get some real play time with your family, and actually reduce your stress rather than increase it. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Welcome to my kitchen table. Panama Ponderings: July 2016

http://panamaponderings.blogspot.com/2016_07_01_archive.html

Monday, July 11, 2016. Things I'll Miss (And Not). My flight back to the US is scheduled for September 2. That’s less than 8 weeks away! On the other hand, I’ll miss all the produce – coconut water and oranges from my front yard, cacao freshly processed from the finca. Avocadoes and pineapples and mangoes and passion fruits and yellow bananas – all from here. Being “special”. Just a handful of recent pictures that also represent things I’ll miss…. So many baby animals in the campo. And, of course, Arcadia.

Panama Ponderings: May 2015

http://panamaponderings.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 26, 2015. Project Management and Leadership Conference with Angel was fantastic! He was so excited about it that he wanted to share the experience with everyone back home. So he asked the conference facilitators if they could hold the same conference in Quebrada Pastor - and they agreed! Then he went home, got 10 signatures of people who wanted to attend, and decided which were the most important sessions. I didn't really have to do anything - which is exactly how it should be! After PML, I ...

Panama Ponderings: April 2016

http://panamaponderings.blogspot.com/2016_04_01_archive.html

Sunday, April 24, 2016. This aqueduct project is a marathon. I mean, I assume the metaphor is accurate. I’ve never run a marathon. Guess you’d have to ask my brother, the ultra-marathoner, what that’s actually like ( https:/ steeplesandsunglasses.wordpress.com/. Happens by doing and seeing – not by reading and writing (much to my chagrin when I want to draw them a diagram) – so working together on this infrastructure project is a vivid way to learn that sense of empowerment, ownership, contro...We’...

Saturday, May 7, 2016. Mom told my brother and me once, after we asked why there is Mother’s Day and Father’s Day but no Children’s Day (as in, Why do you get presents an extra day each year and we don’t? That it’s not about getting presents, it’s about being able to honor someone else. Everyone has a mother and a father to honor, but not everyone has children. This way, no one gets left out.
