Why do we need special training for early EMDR intervention? Immediately after a trauma occurs, memories have not had time to form into a consolidated whole. For victims of a qualifying incident/disaster:. EMDR trauma therapy is available for you, a family member, close friend or colleague. The types of incidents that qualify are:. A recent critical incident/tragedy. A community man-made or natural disaster, such as the Yarnell Hill wildfire. A shooting in a busy office building.
