A few good books

A few good books. Wednesday, April 23, 2008. The Sacrafice of Tamar, by Naomi Ragen. I was browsing in Brooklyn’s best used bookstore, Here’s A Bookstore, with my friend Pnina yesterday, not really looking for anything specific. As I was aimlessly sifting through the stacks, I came across The Sacrifice of Tamar, by Naomi Ragen. Knowing Pnina and I share a penchant for scandalous tales, I urged her to buy it, or one of Ragen’s other titles. But I digress: Tmaar and her husband live a very happy and satisf...

A few good books: The Rabbi's Daughter, by Reva Mann

http://afewgoodbooks.blogspot.com/2008/02/rabbis-daughter-by-reva-mann.html

A few good books. Friday, February 29, 2008. The Rabbi's Daughter, by Reva Mann. Mann had a period after her rebellion when she clung, steadfast, to the straight and narrow in an attempt to banish her wild ways before ultimately obeying her inner voice and taking up with a non-Orthodox way of life. And, oh yes- Auslander could actually write. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Rabbis Daughter, by Reva Mann. Maus, by Art Spiegelman. I really like books. View my complete profile. A few good books: Lottery, by Patricia Wood

http://afewgoodbooks.blogspot.com/2007/11/lottery-by-patricia-wood.html

A few good books. Thursday, November 22, 2007. Lottery, by Patricia Wood. Lottery, by Patricia Wood. Perry, Keith, and Cherry form an unlikely family, made up of the type of people dismissed by most in society. Yet their interaction is sweet without being cloying. For my family winning the Lottery was realistic - and everything that happened to Perry happened to my father as well although not with the same consequences. Family members turned into stereotypical avaricious caricatures of themselves.

A few good books: May 2007

http://afewgoodbooks.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html

A few good books. Monday, May 28, 2007. Infidel, by Ayaan Hirsi Ali. With so many politicians, it’s merely tired party lines that they spout from their public soapboxes, but with someone like Ali, readers see how her entire life shaped her politics, and the zeal she brings to her political mission of reformation in the fundamental Arab world is deeply personal. The Spellman Files, by Lisa Lutz. The book jacket promises that this is the first in a new series, and I am ridiculously excited that there&#8217...

A few good books: March 2008

http://afewgoodbooks.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html

A few good books. Thursday, March 27, 2008. Though I’ve always been partial to reading fictional literature, I have been experiencing an interest in reading non-fiction, as well. Luckily, there is no dearth of great non-fiction books out there, and the following are a few of the better non-fiction works that I’ve read recently. Friday Night Lights, by H.G. Bissinger. Under the Banner of Heaven, by Jon Krakauer. Five Points, by Tyler Anbinder. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I really like books.

An ironically named blog about some relatively interesting people in and around Washington Heights, and, to be fair, well beyond that area. Sunday, March 18, 2007. A Return to Boston: One Year Later. Please add to the conversation if you can! Shmuel ...

An ironically named blog about some relatively interesting people in and around Washington Heights, and, to be fair, well beyond that area. Tuesday, April 17, 2007. Just now, in my late-night procrastination rounds, I clicked on the NYT website. Only to be horrifed by news that everyone else has probably known about all day. How do you process something like that? How do we think about the dead? As they were when they were living? I have had similar ruminations. April 19, 2007 8:22 AM. A ditty is a song.

An ironically named blog about some relatively interesting people in and around Washington Heights, and, to be fair, well beyond that area. Thursday, January 24, 2008. The Great UG Heights Political Debate. It’s been ages, I don’t know if anyone even reads this anymore but I’m going to post regardless. A few things have been stirring in my mind relating to the brouhaha surrounding the presidential primaries, and the arduous task of moving my lazy self to register. Perhaps my objection is that life is way...
