A Few (Green) Figs From Thistles

A Few (Green) Figs From Thistles. Wednesday, April 1, 2015. Inspiration comes in so many guises that I am convinced that regardless of what our personal assessment of our skills and works is, we inspire others when we share our thoughts about it and our progress. I am inspired by people who make amazingly complicated marvels of fabric, but I am also inspired by people who try new skills and are brave enough to share their successes and failures and ask for advice. A Few (Green) Figs From Thistles: Adventures in Cellulose Part II

http://afewgreenfigs.blogspot.com/2014/12/adventures-in-cellulose-part-ii.html

A Few (Green) Figs From Thistles. Wednesday, December 10, 2014. Adventures in Cellulose Part II. I have washed and dried the weaving and tonight I hemmed the spa cloths, thus learning that I need to include ENOUGH plainweave to make a hem and still make them square, if I want a square finished product. Oh well. Lessons learned, and another reason doing something is a good way of learning more about it. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Fiber Blogs I Follow. Textile Adventures in Russia. A Few (Green) Figs From Thistles: Knitting Away the Winter Grays

http://afewgreenfigs.blogspot.com/2015/01/knitting-away-winter-grays.html

A Few (Green) Figs From Thistles. Saturday, January 17, 2015. Knitting Away the Winter Grays. This time of year it seems like it is always dark, the sky is always cloudy and gray and I long for the bright colors of summer. As an antidote to the subdued and washed out color palette I pulled out my balls of leftover yarn and one off skeins of yarn, a book of peeries and border charts, and my knitting needles and knit myself a vest. A Few (Green) Figs From Thistles. Monday, December 22, 2014. I have been in the midst of Holiday gift making craziness, though that is winding down, thankfully. I sewed my first garment from handspun, handwoven wool - The Japanese inspired panel vest. I will not post a photo as the recipient may see it. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A Few (Green) Figs From Thistles: Spinning while sick

http://afewgreenfigs.blogspot.com/2015/01/spinning-while-sick.html

A Few (Green) Figs From Thistles. Tuesday, January 27, 2015. I have gotten a great deal of spinning done recently, due to illness. A gorgeous columbia cross which I blogged about here. And a beautiful braid of I believe cheviot (I think) dyed by Gnomespun. Which I got in a destash from Lynn. I spun it into a firm two ply, which I intend to use for socks and got just under 500 yards from the 4 ounces of wool. I do love spinning. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Fiber Blogs I Follow. Wherever I Go, There I Am. Observations from my meanderings through life. The Sweet, Sweet Summertime. May 26, 2014. Is there anything that compares to the promise of an early summer day? Textile Sanity: It's Delovely

http://textilesanity.blogspot.com/2012/09/its-delovely.html

Thursday, September 27, 2012. I love spinning. I love teaching and demonstrating the art of spinning. I get great personal satisfaction from helping a new spinner figure out how to make yarn. Unique yarn. I taught a private student recently who paid me the nicest compliment. She said “. I really appreciated your knowledge and professionalism in spinning. I was very inspired to grow in the craft.”. It was super nice to hear. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Inkle Loom Tetrahedron Ornaments.

Textile Sanity: 7/1/12

http://textilesanity.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, July 29, 2012. Fun Days at Convergence. I spent two days last week at Convergence 2012 in Long Beach, CA. Convergence happens once every 2 years. This year it happened to be in my back yard. It is a super textile extravaganza event. There are exhibits, a fashion show, lots of classes and a full vendor hall. I was able to see the tapestry exhibit at the Long Beach Library. I saw the fashion show, leader and multi-media exhibits. I shopped in the vendor hall. I just love this bag featuring her as t...

Textile Sanity: Snickering Pigs

http://textilesanity.blogspot.com/2012/11/snickering-pig_30.html

Friday, November 30, 2012. I finished Angry Bird Pig #1 a month ago. Here he is (reference blog post Too Busy. I finished Angry Bird Pig #2 last week. Here he is. Here they are together. Aren’t they ridiculously cute? Can you tell one pig is bigger than the other? Not sure how that happened but I must have tightened the yarn tension on the second one. It’s probably closer to pattern gauge than the first piggy. Have one more to make. Ian calls them “Snickering Pigs.”. December 2, 2012 at 5:32 AM.

Gardens, books and …. About my blog…. A Garden in Winter. With not a snowflake in sight (though I’m hoping for snowdrops)! Messy, but better than it was! 8216;Someone’ had put a plastic pond-liner at the bottom of the garden, exactly where my snowdrops come up, year after year. It didn’t seem important in summer, when we bought it, but I suddenly realised how close we are to snowdrop time and moved it away. The shoots look pale and flattened, but I think they’ll recover! Thursday, September 4, 2014. Older than he should be. Some parents say their kid acts/looks/seems older than they actually are.
