A few things about wild things. Friday, March 30, 2012. The butterfly and the vine ; an interesting relationship. The other day I went running with the dog along the beautiful American River Parkway. I kept noticing these black butterflies everywhere. Then I found one on the ground on the path. What a beauty. I snapped this shot and had to find out more about this one. You can see from the shape of the interesting bloom where the name came from! Is the only host plant for Battus philenor. Ok, more about ...

A few things about wild things. Friday, March 23, 2012. A few days ago I was working around the barn area and was looking through the stacked lumber. Under a piece of plywood siding leaning against the barn was this little mallard hen who found a cozy and private place to nest. I felt bad because I gave her a scare when I flipped open her private little area. Mama will be happy and thankful that you did.
