a few thoughts...

Comments on news events from around the world. Monday, April 11, 2011. On the "Obama Doctrine". There is a lot of discussion about how the "Obama Doctrine" differs from the "Bush Doctrine." While I'm not sure that it yet qualifies as a “doctrine,” and seems like more of a case-by-case approach, the Obama administration's foreign policy in many respects is certainly quite different than the Bush approach. Further, Obama's foreign policy decisions are being made in a very different international context.

a few thoughts...: December 2009

Comments on news events from around the world. Thursday, December 3, 2009. On religion and politics, by Julian Arevalo. On Politics and Religion. Another two articles on religion in this week’s The Economist. The shortest of them about the increased interest of Anglicans for the Catholic Church given the increased liberalism that their church is experiencing, versus the tight set of rules of the one from Rome; the latter, no wonder, is happily welcoming those looking for something more conservative.

Comments on news events from around the world. Wednesday, February 2, 2011. On the violence today in Egypt. I just saw the anti-Mubarak protesters building walls on the streets to keep back the pro-Mubarak people throwing rocks at them. Neither the military nor the police is stepping in between the sides. Using bullets seems out of the question. The protesters will have to defend themselves. They ultimately seem to have far greater numbers, and are building defensible perimeters. A few thoughts on education | Reflections on schools, teaching and education. By Steve Adcock

A few thoughts on education. Reflections on schools, teaching and education. By Steve Adcock. A healthy approach to testing. July 18, 2015. In England, testing is often seen as being at odds with the true purpose of schooling. Friends of mine in both the primary and secondary sector have left the profession, or moved into the independent sector, to escape the grip that testing holds over state education. So what would a healthy approach to testing look like? A healthy approach to testing also involves th...

A few thoughts on living on the border

A few thoughts on living on the border. A way to share a bit of my life here with my family and friends, and to offer a few reflections on living on the Thai/Burma border. Sunday, May 13, 2012. Angkor Wat and beyond. The temples were extremely impressive - the vastness of angkor wat, the amazing geographic spread of the several complexes in the area, the jungle reclaiming some, and the extensive restoration that had been conducted on others. Below are a few photos from our visit. Sunset at Pre Rup. Third...

The Answers You Seek Are Right Where You Stand

The Answers You Seek Are Right Where You Stand. Wednesday, April 9, 2014. I thought I knew the key players in my game. I thought I knew the path and the destination. I had a plan that was outside of my awareness.until I began to feel that things weren't going my way. When I heard myself feeling this way, it woke me up. My way".this was the problem. Life was not unfolding according to my ideas. Of the future. People were not acting as I thought. It comes down to respecting the source more than the persona...

A Few Thousand | Mike & Bryan Ride Their Bikes Across The Country

Mike and Bryan Ride Their Bikes Across The Country. September 29, 2013. So today I attempted to do some dirt jumping at Valmont Bike Park! It was a blast. They have things to ride no matter your skill level! My Blog. My Show. 14 March, 2015. A quilt for Norge. Another dear friend is having a baby! They live in Norway so this is the furthest I've ever sent a quilt. I'm pretty excited about having a well-traveled quilt in my repertoire. Audrey has an awesome color scheme. Going for the baby's room. It can always be used for picnics and laps and whatever. I just loved making this quilt. It was the first time I'd ever used triangles. Not triangles made out of squares. I think the colors turned out ni...Labels: b...
