WILDLIFE OF SAUDI ARABIA. Saudi Arabian Wildlife Home. There are in this beautiful country a variety of mammalian inhabitants. Camels are naturally expected, but hedge hogs, baboons, and wolves? N the left are traces of what might be a kangaroo rat. I found the carcass of this little fellow outside of a fox den. The tiny hoof prints on the right were very common in one location. Hard to tell if they are goat tracks or one of the three specie of gazelles that live here. Wild goats are a more likely guess.

But life takes unexpected paths. Instead of a zoo I found a home in the Army. For 23 years it was my life and profession, and might have been for 23 more were it not for a peculiar set of circumstances while stationed in South Korea in the late nineties. While still a soldier I found myself training elephants and rhinoceroses. The passion still lurking under the skin exploded back to life.

Kandahar sits smack in the middle of the Afghan desert; the photos below were snapped in early June 08 and the temperature was already well above 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
