Labour Campaign for International Development. Presidents and Vice Presidents. Why It Is Time to Call Time on the British Treasure Islands. By Stephen Doughty MP, Labour and Co-operative MP for Cardiff South and Penarth and LCID Vice-President @SDoughtyMP. This piece originally featured on the Huffington Post. However, we miss the point if this is where our attention is drawn to when we delve into the Panama Papers. We miss the point that is once again staring us all starkly in the face. The corruption, ...

The DDD Manifesto | Building State Capability

Skip to primary content. Statement from the October 2014 ‘ Doing Development Differently. Too many development initiatives have limited impact. Schools are built but children do not learn. Clinics are built but sickness persists. Governments adopt reforms but too little changes for their citizens. They focus on solving local problems that are debated, defined and refined by local people in an ongoing process. They are legitimised at all levels (political, managerial and social), building ownership and mo...

Freetown Blog: A bit of context
http://timinfreetown.blogspot.com/2010/04/bit-of-context.html
Wednesday, 14 April 2010. A bit of context. Clinging on to the roller coaster of daily work in the Ministry it was good to be reminded of what it's all about, via an article posted on the Guardian website today. Dr Kargbo is a bit of an inspiration to a lot of us here - bringing huge energy to the task. It is reassuring to see his positive reference to the 'new kind of assistance' that they have been getting in Ministry this year and I hope I am playing at least a small part in that. A bit of context.

Freetown Blog: Launch Day
http://timinfreetown.blogspot.com/2010/04/launch-day.html
Tuesday, 27 April 2010. This free healthcare issue - we need to grasp it with both hands! Yesterday was the last pre-launch Ministry Steering Group meeting, and there was much to discuss: have drug consignments reached all intended destinations? Are they the right drugs? Is all the equipment and renovation work completed? Are the monitoring arrangements in place? Have the messages been communicated properly? PS (pm Wed 28th). The concert got rained off! Today about the launch, which is worth a look.

Monday, July 18, 2011. In Sierra Leone, New Hope for Children and Pregnant Women. Sven Torfinn for The New York Times. Clinics like this one in Tumbu have been jammed since Sierra Leone ended some fees in 2010. The word was out: it was no longer necessary to give birth at home and risk losing a baby or dying in childbirth. Hadiatou Kamara, 18, waited in the crowd. She had already lost a baby boy and girl. “They both died,” she said quietly. Sierra Leone is at the vanguard of a revolution — heavily ...
