the monkey whisperers | africa in july
https://africainjuly.wordpress.com/2011/07/22/the-monkey-whisperers
A month in ghana and guinea. A few minutes a day of tossing food (not just processed food) to the monkey, and Adam started to encourage me to try and hand the monkey some food. We were still frightened by the monkey as she constantly seemed volatile. One moment she would be taking food from our hand and the next moment she would be jumping at us again. She grew especially agitated with a female present. But with trepidation and fear, I stuck my leg out and sure enough she started picking through the hair...

A month in ghana and guinea. Grade They then have to pass a national exam to move on to college which is equivalent to 7. Grade The students then take another national exam, and those who pass move on to secondary school, or 11. We were all very hungry by the time dinner was prepared (around 9 pm) because none of us had really eaten lunch, but it was worth the wait. The chicken was boiled with spices, then grilled over charcoal with extra sauce and seasonings to die for! Welcome to paradise →. Glad it is...

Wild Ginger: Columba's Remorse
http://holmesyj.blogspot.com/2015/05/columbas-remorse.html
Sunday, May 31, 2015. I think this is a super crazy story of how a monastery came to be, but I’m not sure if it’s true. Would be cool if it was. Here’s my imagined inner monologue of Columba. Yes, God is everywhere. But sometimes the place is too haunted and tainted with the darkness of deathly spirits for a feeble Christian soul to thrive. I must escape, sail away. Maybe others will come with me, my loyal friends and brothers, on my journey of remorse. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). My Church - LGBC.
Wild Ginger: August 2013

Tuesday, August 13, 2013. She is a dream of a patient. We have swapped quite a lot of medical stories and advice, as she was an oncology nurse for many years and has a great memory of anatomy and physiology. Her short term memory is poor from the time she spent in ECT, so she tends to tell the same stories from time to time, but I am guilty of the same! Hahahaha. But we needed it to get back in anyway. She saved us that time. I could talk to anyone! I could talk to a door and get a response.". Unfortunat...

Monday, July 29, 2013. Sunday, July 21, 2013. The Instability of Christendom. You have to put that right up front? The meditative spirit was at once crushed by disgust, ambivalence, and shame. Shame that my Christian forefathers were so violent and reliant upon the traditional worldly power structures. It wasn't just that place. The statues are everywhere. St. James the Moorslayer. Two things have helped give me a structure in which to understand this paradox. 2) "No Enduring City". The error of Christen...
Wild Ginger: Blessing for Good Friday - Jan Richardson
http://holmesyj.blogspot.com/2015/03/blessing-for-good-friday-jan-richardson.html
Saturday, March 14, 2015. Blessing for Good Friday - Jan Richardson. Does not stay still,. By the way it. You will recognize it. By how it takes. First one form,. The face of the mother. Who watches the breaking. She had borne,. Now in the stance. Who followed him here. And will not leave him. Now it twists in anguish. On the mouth of the friend. Whom he loved;. Now it bares itself. In the wound,. Is not in any one. It is what dwells. Though it be torn. It is what abides. View my complete profile.
Wild Ginger: Life in B'more: Groceries
http://holmesyj.blogspot.com/2015/07/life-in-bmore-groceries.html
Sunday, July 19, 2015. Life in B'more: Groceries. One of the downsides of marrying a socially conscious person is that it complicates decisions that used to be automatic, and you start to feel guilt about things that were not even on the radar before. Like where you shop for groceries. Now, I like ALDI a lot, but their produce is not good and they make you pay for a cart and they don't bag your groceries. Sigh. Now, I'm starting to feel guilty. Why am I driving so far. I told myself it was the "all in on...

Sunday, July 19, 2015. Life in B'more: Neighbors. So I give Ross a lot of credit for scoping out the Baltimore scene and having confidence on where to buy a house after a week of looking around with some local people. We ended up living block and a half north of Patterson Park (which is awesome! And have a very diverse block, from vacant houses to gentrifying row homes. While making a circular motion with his pointer finger in the direction of my belly. I said, "Yeah, I'm pregnant! Ross likes to shop at ...

africa in july | a month in ghana and guinea
A month in ghana and guinea. Loving others wherever we are. In a comment on the last post, my brother aptly encouraged me that the people of dallas need Jesus just like the ghanians do. i know that, yet sometimes i still turn down my “loving others” dial when i get back from a mission trip. it’s good to be reminded of that truth — thanks brother. 8221;). of course, before we knew it, we were all back in the swing of things, feeling at home in our world of abundant resources and crazy technology.
