Good News, Bad News! A long day to the Lake. It’s 7 o’clock in the morning and I’m dragging two huge and heavy bags through Lilongwe bus station. I packed way too much ‘katungu’ but when you are travelling for 6 months you need a lot of stuff. I finally make it to the AXA bus office and suspiciously there are no buses. There is a fuel crisis in Lilongwe and according to the ticket office, the drivers are out looking for fuel. ‘Perhaps the bus will leave at 10am’, he helpfully adds. On the beach the games...

Good News, Bad News! A Pause for some Poetry. 06/01/2013 by A Nomad. Where ‘now’ means sometime, ‘now-now’ means whenever and ‘just now’ means never.). There is a belief that Africans have contempt for punctuality for which the term ‘African time’ has been used. African Time is slow. One hour can easily turn into two, two into four etc. The result of this is a lot of waiting, waiting, waiting. A Definition of Africa Time. The Concept of Time in Africa. Traditionally, African communities told time by refe...

Good News, Bad News! It’s been 5 years since I was last in Uganda and looking back at my photos from that time, memories have been bubbling to the surface. The main reason that people travel to Uganda is to see the primates. I was lucky enough to see chimpanzees and gorillas on several occasions as well as the smaller baboons, colobus monkeys and vervet monkeys. War of the Rats. Metallic noises in the kitchen alerted me to the fact that they were entering the gas cooker and after dismantling it, I discov...

Discovering my creative side through poetry and prose. November 14, 2014. November 14, 2014. Not many men of his years still had a full head of hair, still stood straight and tall at over six foot. Some tended to stoop, making them look old. Up until a month ago he had neither felt nor looked his age and would declare to anyone who cared to listen that he had the physique of a man half his age. Return to Venice | Europe Nomad

A Nomad at Heart. A Nomad at Heart. Home Away from Home. Last year, one of the main reasons for my tour was Venice. I spent 3 days. There for only 140. In 1493 there were 137 churches in Venice. Ca’ d’Oro (Golden House) has overlooked the Grand Canal since 1434. Its golden decoration has long since disappeared and its previous owners (a procurator of San Marco, a ballerina and a baron) have too. The Palace is now filled with art which you have to pay 8.50 to see. By the time I reach Arsenale my stomach i...

Discovering my creative side through poetry and prose. October 13, 2014. October 13, 2014. At the Day School we had to create a character from a colour who then wrote a letter expressing strong emotion to another character. My character, a 6ft 5 dreadlocked youth, wrote to his mother, a shallow character obsessed with her own appearance, who had abandoned him many years earlier. Later, I decided to rewrite the original letter as a poem. By now you have another name. One I’ve never known. For me, you have.

African Nostalgia - Home
African Nostalgia - Quality at its best! Our products are all created using the batik technique. The ancient art of 'batik' is very intricate and time consuming:. A blank white fabric is transformed by a process . Consisting of several layers of wax and dyes. The artisans first apply hot melted wax, which acts as a resistant on the fabric, each piece is then carefully submerged into a dye bath and allowed to dry in .
