Rob is in Africa.

Rob is in Africa. The end of an "odyssey". I apologize for the nearly two-month gap between posts. My final few days in Dar Es Salaam before coming home were fairly hectic (I became seriously ill, nearly hospitalized). I'd written a "final" post to give a sense of closure, but the computer crashed as I was finishing it, and I was too frustrated and tired to write another. Sorry! Can anyone eat so much fudge? It's a good feeling to finally have a solid ground to stand on, though. It will be fantastic ...

Rob is in Africa.: Fade to Black

http://africanrob.blogspot.com/2007/08/fade-to-black.html

Rob is in Africa. Today I have some good news to drop, but as a warning the last paragraph gets a little heavy. If I support these kids directly, what will they do when I go? Posted by Rob @ 2:52 AM. At 8/21/2007 9:41 PM. Congratulations on the grant and the lawn mower project. What a blessing both will be for the people there. As you said, your last paragraph was heavy. I'll be praying for you and for the young man. I believe something good will come of this situation. At 8/22/2007 4:13 PM.

Rob is in Africa. Sitting alone in my Pawpaw Tree. As I was putting on my backpack today to roll on into town, a dead bird fell out. An ominous beginning, no? Bribe takers. Sometimes a little under the table grease gets the package over the table a bit easier. The best part is, they're not pretentious about their bribes. From what I hear, anything and everything flies. If you get a big box of candy, alright we'll take a Snickers! Or a method of learning about music they particularly enjoyed? Shouts begin...

Rob is in Africa. Rain, Dancing (again), the Lake, Christmas. Otherwise, I've just been reading a bunch, and watching movies with Aaron (he brought a laptop. We also just finished season one of "Lost". I want to know what the heck is in that hatch.) We explored our campus and the area surrounding it the other day, and took some really good pictures. I'll try posting them sometime soon. I was talking to Grace (my niece who is turning 7 today! Finally, its Christmas time! Posted by Rob @ 9:53 PM. First and...

Rob is in Africa. Hodi" - the worst word ever invented. When you are traveling to see various cultures, the differences you see naturally beg for you to make comparisons. One of the most common ones that I've heard goes something like "People are so much friendlier here in (insert country name) than they are in America! How is your morning, brother? It is fine and clean. How is your day? Simply fine and clean. How is your place? My place is completely nice. It is Ihungo Secondary.". Where are you going?

Rob is in Africa. You Gotta Help Me Out, Yea-eah. I have a couple requests for assistance today, no stories about death spiders or bad English or anything. Posted by Rob @ 4:04 AM. Meet My New Lads. Question 1: What is your name? Question 2: What are your hobbies? Question 3: Why do you like physics? I know, ridiculous question.). Question 4: Why do you dislike physics? Question 5: Any comments/questions/expectations? This was the part where their English skills really shone. I'll write a few verbatim.

Wednesday, July 26, 2006. This is the Qwest-like building, though my picture does not do it justice. Sadly the campus is dry so the pool cannot be enjoyed as it should, but it still has different levels and waterfalls. My bathroom. I have a lot to say about Indian bathrooms but that is an entirely different post as I am trying to keep this one focused on the campus. The view from my room. Posted by MasterBlaster at 9:08 AM. Thursday, August 17, 2006. Alright, it has been awhile since I last posted but before I get started I would like to say something. I hate you anonymous and don't think I don't know who you are. That said, today's topic might be immature, but I have had to dig deep to come up with something to write about since I have been working more than playing. I am sitting in a giant auditorium on campus. The room is filled with almost everyone I know here. Each person is sitting on their own toilet, pants a...On ab...

Tuesday, October 17, 2006. Say hello to my new toy, the Bajaj Pulsar. She is dark, fast, beautiful and only cost me $180 for three months. A few weeks ago a couple of guys rented bikes and when they were still alive after a few weeks of riding in India, I joined them. Not having to haggle with rickshaw drivers, getting ripped off because I am white, and then getting mad about it, is going to make my days much more bearable. It also came in handy this last weekend. Hill stations were created by the Britis...
